Adidas Classic: Top 2019 Prospects on Day 1
The 15th annual Adidas Classic is being held in Melbourne, FL this weekend. It is hosted by the Brevard Bulls and is apart of an AAU league entitled CYBL USA (Competitive Youth Basketball League). It is the third stop in the league and features some of the top talent and teams on the AAU circuit. I took a look to see what 2019 prospects it drew. The division included All Ball Elite, Brevard Bulls, Heart N Soul (A), Heart N Soul (B), Royals
South Georgia Shooters, Space Coast Solar-Flares, Taylored Athletes Elite, Team Tampa, and Team X-Factor.
Day 1 Top 2019 Prospects:
Riley Minix – (Brevard Bulls) Minix had a good day inside and outside abusing his opposing players at will. He’s a tough player with a soft touch around the rim and has range to knock shots down from deep. He also had several key defensive plays to seal.
Tommie Lewis – (Brevard Bulls) Lewis is very athletic, he just simply makes plays. He’s mentally tough, has nice handles, and will lock down opposing players.
Deshawn Jones – (Heart N Soul A) Jones is explosive! He attacked the rim and finished with thunderous dunks. He led his team in every statistical category.
Dominic Brooks – (Team X-Factor) Brooks is a shooter! He extended defenses today with his catch and shoot ability. I counted seven three’s in 1 contest.
Kamalii Findley – (Team Tampa) Findley had himself an outstanding day. He rebounded and defended well, worked the middle of zones, and hit several shots inside and out.
Norris Taylor – (Team Tampa) Taylor is a natural born leader. When his team needed him most, he delivered. He played both guard positions and showed his versatility. He can got to the rim at will and let it fly when defenders backed off. He also put his teammates in spots to succeed.
On day 1, some teams separated themselves from the pack while others faded out of the picture. Team Tampa could be the favorite, they were impressive with their defense and they won the CYBL Tip Off Classic a few weeks ago but Brevard Bulls and/ or Taylored Athletes Elite look to be the to teams that could challenge them for the crown.
