Recruiting Report: Brennan Hall (2018)
Two years ago, Newport Central Catholic advanced to the semifinals of Kentucky’s “Sweet Sixteen” Basketball Tournament, losing out in a close one to eventual champion Paul L. Dunbar. Back then the star of the show for NCC was senior forward Ben Weyer, who averaged 21.6 points per game game during his final season.
Also on that team was a spunky sophomore guard named Brennan Hall, who was second in scoring behind Weyer averaging just under 12 a game. Flash forward to present day, Weyer is a standout guard at Division II Bellarmine University – and Hall is a senior at Newport Central Catholic, averaging the same points per game average as Weyer during his senior campaign.
In an ultra competitive 9th Region, it’s yet to be seen if Newport Central Catholic can have the same type of run Weyer and Hall helped provide the Thoroughbreds two years ago.
What has been seen, however, is that Brennan Hall is a player. Averaging 21.6 points per game and just over 3 rebounds, Hall has been consistent throughout the entire season.
The jump in impact with his team from junior to season year has been rather dramatic, also. Hall averaged right at 15 points per game as a junior.
Primarily a point guard, Hall has shown an improved ability to play off the ball and could be an effective combo guard at the next level. He is shooting over 45% from the field, while shooting just under 40% from 3-point range. At the point, he’s very heady and is willing to create opportunities for his teammates. An improved defensive mindset may bring added interest from more programs going forward.
Hall is a solid student-athlete, carrying over a 3.4 GPA. He currently holds an offer from NAIA Our Lady of the Lake (TX) and has picked up recent interest from another NAIA school in William Penn (IA).
