Five Takeaways: Tampa Catholic vs. Jesuit
On Friday night, Jesuit’s gym was jampacked with Tampa Catholic visiting.
The fun rivalry is always loud and chippy. The Crusaders outlasted Jesuit 62-52 in a game that was a three-point Tampa Catholic lead with two minutes left.
Here are five takeaways from the outing.
Tim Carter continues to lead this group
Senior guard Tim Carter has taken full command of the Tampa Catholic offense. The 6’2″ point man caught fire generating 11 of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter alone. Carter also had eight points in the fourth quarter as the Crusaders put the game away. It was a fine all-around performance from the senior.
Nick Weir can flat out shoot
Jesuit sets up Nick Weir in good situations. We saw glimpses of that a year ago, but this year, the 6’3″ senior has had free reign to shoot at will. He recorded a team-high 15 points which included eight points in the second half. Weir is a smart player that fits right into the Tigers system.
Alijah Harrison and Isaiah Elmore are a gifted 2020 duo
Combining for 14 points, Tampa Catholic sophomores Alijah Harrison and Isaiah Elmore each scored seven points. The 2020 duo represent the future alongside sophomore guard Kobe Knox. Harrison is a 6’4″ forward packed with energy. Elmore is a 6’7″ big man who hustles on the break and has a knack for making a big swat.
Jack Cooper is a hard worker
A 6’6″ forward, Jack Cooper is a true big man that Jesuit hasn’t had in recent years. The junior added 12 points in this game which featured some sound takes to the rim. His jump shot is still inconsistent, but Cooper never stops grinding on the boards and as a mismatch in the paint.
Theirry Moliere battled through evident pain
Returning this week from a leg injury, Jesuit senior guard Thierry Moliere fought his way to a 10-point game. He went to the bench for rest in every quarter as it was apparent he’s not close to 100 percent healthwise. However, Moliere led his offense up the court. The 6’0″ guard hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 55-52 with two minutes left.
