Two teams expected to go toe-to-toe for the Central Wisconsin East Conference championship could also square off in a sectional semifinal once the calendar turns to March. Defending sectional champion Bonduel and league-rival Iola-Scandinavia figure to boast two of the better teams in all of Division 4 and headline the 24-team Sectional 2 field. Both schools are placed in the bottom half of the sectional and could also receive some stern challenges from Algoma, Crivitz, Saint Mary Catholic and Shiocton, among others. In the top half of the bracket, several Marawood Conference members could contend for a sectional-final spot, including Auburndale, Marathon and Stratford.

Following is a look at the top players and top teams in Sectional 2:

Top Five Players in Sectional 2
[player_tooltip player_id='2492535' first='Andrew' last='Hoeser'], 6-6, Sr., F, Neillsville
[player_tooltip player_id='2483851' first='Mason' last='Uhlenbrauck'], 6-2, Sr., G, Saint Mary Catholic
[player_tooltip player_id='2391085' first='Ryan' last='Westrich'], 6-6, Sr., F, Bonduel
[player_tooltip player_id='2387960' first='Quinn' last='Wesenberg'], 6-3, Jr., G/F, Bonduel
[player_tooltip player_id='2352817' first='Alex' last='Robbins'], 6-6, Jr., F, Iola-Scandinavia

Five Breakout Performers in Sectional 2
[player_tooltip player_id='2412802' first='Reed' last='Fleischmann'], 6-1, Sr., G, Colby
[player_tooltip player_id='2622833' first='Sam' last='Bezlyk'], 6-2, Sr., G, Spencer
[player_tooltip player_id='2500057' first='Drew' last='Woelfel'], 6-4, Sr., G/F, Marathon
[player_tooltip player_id='2630004' first='Kade' last='Thoma'], 6-6, Sr., C, Crivitz
[player_tooltip player_id='2634556' first='Parker' last='Lischka'], 6-1, Sr., G, Algoma

Top Five Teams in Sectional 2

1. Bonduel -- Bonduel lost just two games last season and one was to Aquinas in the Division 4 championship game. The JV1 team went 19-3 and the JV2 team finished 17-3. Three double-figure scorers return in Westrich (15.7 ppg), Wesenberg (15.9 ppg) and [player_tooltip player_id='2386363' first='Carter' last='Moesch'] (10.6 ppg). That's all very positive news. But veteran coach Duke Copp does have to replace two very key performers in the graduated Race Anvelink (13.9 ppg) and Cade Johnson (10.8 ppg). Anvelink was the top defender for Bonduel while Johnson did a solid job of running the offense and averaged 7.2 apg. There is definite optimism in the Bonduel camp, but don't overlook replacing two of the key performers from a year ago.

2. Iola-Scandinavia -- The Thunderbirds return their top six players from last year's squad that went 18-6 and lost twice to Bonduel. Coach Sam Bertsch begins his 24th season with good size, excellent strength and good scoring balance. Robbins is a difference maker and a player to watch in the state's 2027 class. He averaged 19.0 ppg and 8.1 rpg as a sophomore. Football standout [player_tooltip player_id='2542526' first='Korz' last='Loken'] (6-5) also fairs well on the basketball court as he contributed 11.9 ppg and 9.3 rpg. Other returning regulars include [player_tooltip player_id='1859310' first='RJ' last='Opperman'] (6-1), [player_tooltip player_id='2829307' first='Jaric' last='Thulien'] (6-3) and Charlie Tappa (6-2). Junior Landon Fuhs (6-5) provides a spark off the bench.

3. Marathon -- Year in and year out, Marathon is one of the better Division 4 programs in Wisconsin. In Adam Jacobson's 14 years as head coach at the Marawood Conference school, his teams have averaged 20 wins per season. Four starters are back in 2025-26, led by Woelfel, one of the more versatile players in the sectional and a terrific leader. Other returning starters include [player_tooltip player_id='2542530' first='True' last='Thurs'] (6-1), [player_tooltip player_id='2918495' first='Landon' last='Sneider'] (5-7) and Garrett Bracewell (6-2). Depth is an asset as juniors Ean Shuda (5-9), Logan Peters (6-5) and Sawyer Berens (6-2) also figure to play prominent roles for the Red Raiders.

4. Algoma -- Algoma, Kewaunee and Southern Door are the teams to watch in the Packerland Conference this winter with the Wolves getting the slight nod behind the return of Lischka and senior classmate Braeden Leist (6-0). Lischka is a two-time unanimous first-team all-league pick while Leist enjoyed a very good junior season and picked up second-team laurels. Junior Charlie Prokash also figures to make big contributions for the Wolves.

5. Auburndale -- Perennial Marawood power Auburndale lost South Division Player of the Year Blake Raab to graduation, but coach Chad Weinfurter always seems to put the pieces of the puzzle together in the right way so look for the Eagles to again field a competitive squad. [player_tooltip player_id='2629808' first='Peyton' last='Weinfurter'] and Josh Lundgren form a solid backcourt and are returning starters from a club that won 24 of 28 outings.

Sleeper Team

Saint Mary Catholic --The lone member of the Big East Conference in Sectional 2, Saint Mary Catholic faces some stellar competition during the regular season. That preparation, which also includes a non-league game with Bonduel, should prepare the Zephyrs for the playoffs. Uhlenbrauck is an outstanding shooter and leader for coach Paul Bradshaw. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2920551' first='Mason' last='Wagner'] (6-2) and Maddox Dwyer (6-1) along with juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2508290' first='Luke' last='Fairweather'] (6-0), [player_tooltip player_id='2920553' first='Tarver' last='Trinkner'] (6-1), Max Vosters (6-4) and Alex Klinkhammer (6-0) give this high-octane squad some quality depth.
