The second annual Prep Hoops Iowa Freshman Showcase took place in Des Moines on Sunday afternoon, with around 60 incoming freshmen taking the floor. Veteran Prep Hoops writer, Tony Roe and I were in attendance throughout the event taking notes on every player, and we'll have a slew of coverage coming throughout the next week. My coverage included teams 4-6, while Tony covered teams 1-3.

In control from tip to final buzzer, [player_tooltip player_id='2921064' first='Jacobi' last='Cofield'] was very much the lead guard for his team. Anything and everything went through him on the offensive end, and his ability to create for himself stood out most. Cofield is a ball-handler that can get down hill and finish at the rim, but can also step out and shoot it with the best of them. Calm and collected, Cofield is at his best when he has the ball in his hands. He's in command of the offense at all times, and can score at will.

A smooth, long guard that has some shades of Jason "White Chocolate" Williams to his game, [player_tooltip player_id='2920910' first='Graedy' last='Edwards'] possesses a tight handle and broke a few ankles on the day.

Low to the ground with his handle, Edwards isn't susceptible to defenders who attempt to pick-pocket him, has his eyes up at all times and initiates the fast-break well. Still working on his jump shot, Edwards knows his strengths and plays to them. He can create for others, which forces defenders to play off him, and when given a lane, he can get to the basket and finish with either hand. A pesky defender too, Edwards has long arms that make him a tough matchup for offensive players. Matching up with the Bondurant-Farrar guard makes for a long day on both ends of the court.

One of the bigger surprises from the beginning of the day, [player_tooltip player_id='2923523' first='Pernell' last='Grover Jr.'] may have the most well-shaped offensive skillset of anyone that was at the Freshman Showcase. Standing at just 5'7", Grover Jr. was one of, if not the best three-point shooter in the gym, confidently pulling up from anywhere around the three-point line. Given his size, one would think he's have a difficult time getting to the rim and scoring, but the Waterloo West product found ways to create space between he and his defender, and though he was more than capable of scoring himself, was a willing passer and able to find his teammates for open shots. With a growth spurt, Grover Jr. could become an instant impact player at the varsity level when he gets there.

"Mr. Finish Through Contact," [player_tooltip player_id='2919953' first='Lane' last='Livingston'] had numerous and-one layups in the time that I was able to watch him play. Already standing at 6'1", Livingston's ability to finish at the rim may be considered less impressive due to his height, but the Norwalk product took some significant contact close to the basket but was still able to finish and get the extra free throws.

With an all-around game too boot, Livingston showed flashes of being an anticipatory passer that could hit his teammate in-stride for a layup or an open shot, has the frame to defend guards at the varsity level in 4A, can hit an open three and more. Part of one of the better basketball programs in recent memory, Livingston will have a shot to follow in the footsteps of the Born brothers, who both left the Warriors for Division I programs.

[player_tooltip player_id='2919825' first='Sean' last='Sinnott'] of Southeast Polk has some Bennett Stirtz qualities to him. Like Iowa's new starting point guard, Sinnott didn't get sped up, took what the defense gave him, remained in control and confident, seemingly unphased by praise from coaches and teammates while also taking coaching well. Sharing the floor with Cofield, he didn't get as much time on the ball as he could have, which is where he also thrives.

Sinnott could take his game to the next level by being more of an off-ball scoring threat, showing the ability to shoot off the catch, but his skillset is currently tailored well to continue to grow as a player.
