Recruiting Report: Kenny Brown (2018)
2018 Palmetto guard Kenny Brown has been a bonafide leader for his team the past few seasons.
The 6’0″, 180-pounder says he gained a greater understanding of higher level decision making this past season. The Tigers made a Class 8A region semifinal appearance a year ago before losing to Lakewood Ranch.
“We saw a lot of difficult situations, but fortunately I was able to play with a different level of energy and a lot of confidence, which ultimately made us better as a whole,” Brown told Prep Hoops Florida. “I was most proud of my ability to step up from a role player the year prior, to being a game changer the following year, whether it was offensively or defensively.”
Brown is hoping his group can bounce back from a 3-11 start to the season and make a run in the playoffs. He wants to earn more chances of playing at the next level and become an all-area player within the process.
He holds an offer from Maine Maritime and has drawn interest from the likes of Lasalle College, United States Coast Guard Academy and a few other Division II and Division III programs.
This summer, Brown played for the Manatee PAL Thunder. They are the third program he’s run with in the Bradenton area since the 5th grade.
“The season was a great way to end my final year,” Brown said. “We placed 7th at AAU nationals 17U and I gained a lot of exposure along the way.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his work ethic. He says he’s always finding ways to make himself better. He’s aiming to score in more ways this season and beyond.
Brown is a tough-minded guard who seems to bail the Tigers out of some bad situations often. He brings energy and assertiveness to his group. Look for Brown to land at the Division II or Division III level next fall.
