Michigan's annual scholastic live event commenced this past weekend on the campus of Grand Valley St. BCAM's Reaching Higher event always features plenty of high level competition.

While the stars with established reputations showed out. A handful of players showed off the next step in their developments. Making a strong case to join the aforementioned group.

[player_tooltip player_id='2276974' first='Stevie' last='Hall'] 6-1 2027 Detroit Cass Tech (pictured) As the son of one the more high profile high school coaches in the state. And after taking over the point guard spot for a McDonald's All American. It would be an understatement to say a glaring spotlight has been on this player for a while. He has handled the pressure well as the Cass Tech program has remained in state championship conversation. Now an upperclassman. Hall appears to be a fully formed prospect. Showing increased athletic explosion. He got the basket at will all weekend. While a good athlete, isn't an above the rim finisher for his size. Makes up for it with a mature and creative finishing package. Able to avoid contact and come at the rim from unique angles. Has always featured a tight handle and that continues to present. Plays taller than his listed height due to a lanky frame. Has smoothed out a release on an outside shot that have a hitch a few years ago. Looks ready to take the next step as a junior.

[player_tooltip player_id='2446088' first='Tyler' last='Hunter'] 6-9 2027 Detroit King Staying in the Detroit Public School League. The spotlight has long been on Hunter for a more simple reason than his travel ball teammate. Mainly his eye opening size. Hunter has always had a frame that draws attention. A legitimate 6-9 with at least an easy non flabby 250 pounds. Has always carried it well with good mobility. This past weekend, appeared to be expanding on that already intriguing pallet. Showing excellent footwork in tight spaces on the block. Also displayed a soft touch around the basket and the ability to finish with both hands around the basket. Still could be more assertive establishing deep post position. While he has uncommon burst and tight space speed. In 21st century basketball, could become quicker in running he court. However if you believe the old school bruising big man is coming back. Hunter fits that mold in a major way.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588232' first='Xavier' last='Pendergrass'] 6-7 2026 Lansing Waverly Pendergrass isn't as big as Hunter in terms of frame. However at one time he was. Pendergrass has transformed his body in a major way in the past year. From a ground bound wide bodied post. A drop of about 40 pounds has turned him into an exciting above the finisher. Beyond the increased elevation he showed explosive lane agility. Playing quickly from one block to another. Has always had good hands and advanced ball skills. Makes difficult catches and is a good passer out of the high post. Should form a nice old school 4/5 duo with [player_tooltip player_id='1588240' first='Derek' last='Thomas II']

[player_tooltip player_id='2843925' first='Logan' last='Farmer'] 6-1 2028 Pewamo-Westphalia I first caught Farmer early in the spring with the [program_tooltip program_id='2077017' first='Grand' last='Rapids Storm'] At that time he looked like a player who had primarily played JV basketball the year prior. The skills were definitely there. However appeared to be still getting the aggressiveness part down. Fast forward to this weekend. That timidity was nowhere to be found. He looks very comfortable as a second playmaking guard on a deep and talented Pewamo squad. Attacked the basket and finished at the rim despite a slight frame. Is a good ball handler who will probably be able to play both the 1 and 2 by the time he is a senior. Efficient shooter with a quick release. Gets into his motion with little wasted movement. The only 2028 on this list. Farmer might just be scratching the surface of his potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='2360482' first='Cyrus' last='Goins'] 6-6 Wayne Memorial Last year the Zebras advanced all the way to the Division I state finals behind a heralded back court and a very late developing third option in Austin Tory (Grand Valley St) While losing one half of that backcourt, and playing on the same court that Tory has matriculated to. It appears lightning might have struck once again. While Tory was under the radar due to a late six inch growth spurt. Goins is a little off the radar due to not being in the program last year. There are varying online citations of his height. While the Flat Rock transfer hasn't had the growth spurt that Tory had (few will) I am approximating his height a little taller than what most places this list. Even if I am wrong, his extreme length helps him play more to 6-7 than 6-4 ot 6-5. He is skilled and showed guard ability. With long arms and a high release point his shot is difficult to block. Appeared to be most comfortable in the mid range. Got to his spots with improved ball handling. Isn't a primary scorer. However with [player_tooltip player_id='1793921' first='Jaylohn' last='Allen'] returning at Wayne, he won't need to be. If he can continue his improvement through the fall. Goins could have a big senior yesr.
