The introduction of the Scholastic Live Periods has become a crucial element of modern day recruiting and here in the DMV there is no shortage of events (6 total) for college coaches to attend to find the next wave of talent. We thought it would be important to highlight a few prospects that our scouts think are primed for a breakout performance that should net some college interest. Let's begin with the senior class in the DMV by talking about our favorite wing breakout candidates!

DMV Live

-The shooting ability and ball skills at Marshburn's size should make him an intriguing candidate for college coaches in search of a wing in the senior class. Marshburn's ability to produce at a consistent level while being a very low-maintenance piece in the GCS system that succeeds regardless of whether or not he has sets run for him. His activity around the basket has picked up as he has made improvements to his body to carve out more space for rebounds. LM coaches in search of a stretch wing/forward prospect should definitely take a look.

DMV Live

-Edwards has grown an inch or so to 6'6+ and figures to have a breakout weekend as he will likely be OC's second leading scorer. The bruising wing hits the glass hard, can defend multiple positions, serves as a great slasher within the Knights' offense, and has made vast improvements to his jumpshot. His play impacts winning and his competitiveness shows through at both ends of the floor. Would be surprised if college coaches didn't look at his frame, athleticism, skillset, and mentality-- and come away thinking anything other than "This is a guy we should recruit."

DC Live

-Mahan is one of my favorite players to watch in the area as a chaotic and disruptive force for Jackson Reed. Mahan is a very effective slasher with above-average vertical pop, can hit C+S looks from the perimeter, hits the glass hard, and defends at a high level. With the graduation of several key pieces and the departure of their coach to the college ranks, the Tigers will need a big year out of Mahan to be successful.

MBCA (Marriottsville Ridge)

-The physical wing prospect is one that college coaches should really get to know. Brooks has a soft touch around the basket, can pass, can put it on the floor, and is a huge asset on the glass at both ends of the floor for Flowers. He impacts the game in so many different areas and can really move for a player his size and strength. Wouldn't be surprised to see him turn a few heads.

DMV Live

-Billy transferred into the IAC powerhouse and was a pretty seamless addition for a Bulldogs team that really needs his shooting ability in the frontcourt. Billy's release point and fluid shooting motion make him a potent weapon in Coach Kelley's system and figures to get a nice boost in production this weekend as Bullis is missing a few key pieces in the backcourt. If Billy can prove that he can guard his yard, space the floor, and finish his opportunities in the paint-- I expect the Patriot League schools that have been sniffing around to pull the trigger on an offer.
