Prospect Spotlight: Dallas Tealer: The ‘Canes senior talks leadership by example.
Senior Hurricanes guard Dallas Tealer didn’t forget the last his squad matched up with P.K. Yonge. It was a five-point loss at the start of the season, November 28th.
Nearly six weeks later, Tealer and the ‘Canes earned a 15-point win on their home floor with Tealer notching 11 points.
His game is very spread out, right now. He’s known for making the three-ball at a high rate, especially if he gets into the corner. But on Friday night, his midrange jumper was on, and he even bodied an alley-oop from fellow senior Christian Miller-Cardwell. Just a great amount of consistent hustle.
And it’s come right on time.
“At the beginning of the season, we were really slow,” Tealer admitted. “We had high expectations for ourselves, but we weren’t performing like it. We just kind of expected it to happen. Now, everyone’s understanding that we cant just walk in and win.”
Tealer said everyone’s getting in the game now that the team has adapted that mentality. From now to the end of the season, it’s about not letting that consistency drop.
When asked if he’s the senior leader that implores that idea, he pointed to a different 2018 guy. But, he still aims to make his presence felt on a daily basis.
“Josh Dudley is leader vocally. I just try to lead by example, honestly,” Tealer said. “Too many guys telling people what to do, I don’t think that’s effective. It’s our last shot out there, so we have to get the other guys on board, as well.”
