“Kingdom of the Sun” Tourney: Interview Wrap-Up: Diamond Smith
Gainesville Hurricanes senior Diamond Smith used his 6’3”, near-200-pound frame to be a glass-cleaner on the rebounding front, while also knocking down a few mid-range jumpers at the Kingdom Tourney. Here’s what Smith had to say about his time, there.
JR: “What was your experience like at the Kingdom of the Sun Tourney?”
DS: “It was a great experience to be a part of, and seeing that I had to go out and compete every game will ready me for the next level.”
JR: “How would you rate the level of competition, as a whole?”
DS: “With the bracket my team was set in, we played some well-known players that have already committed to Top D-1 colleges. I would rate it, from “10” being “high competition”, to “one” being “not-so-much competition”, a 10.”
JR: “What did this 3-4 day experience teach you about your team?”
DS: “These 3-4 days going at it, game-after-game with my team, shows me that we can compete with anybody, as long as we play as a team.”
JR: “Going into the second half of the season, what are you and your team’s goals after experiencing what you did at the #KOS?”
DS: “In the second half of the season, my goal is to continue to get better as a player and also a teammate. For my team goals, I know for a fact that it’s to continue to get better as individuals but also playing better as a team and win all the challenges (games) that are in front of us. We want to win districts, the playoffs, Final 4, and State, and bring back home that ring. But in order to do that, we will bust our butts in every practice and compete against each other.”
JR: “Would you want to be part of this tournament again, next December? Why?”
DS: “Yes, I would like to be a part of the KOS tournament again, because it shows you what type of player you are in tough situations, and also what level your team can play on.”
