Woodrow Wilson @ Georgetown Prep : 10 BEST
1-3-18. Georgetown Prep HS. 10900 Rockville Pike,North Bethesda MD. 20852.
Georgetown Prep Little Hoyas 70 Woodrow Wilson Tigers 68
I would like to thank Georgetown Prep Head Coach Ryan Eskow & his great staff for their great hospitality at their beautiful campus & Field House. There have been several very big national & local tournaments at Prep, most notably the NHSI National Year end Tournament which became The Dicks National in 2014 when Dicks Sports became the event sponsor. Additional thanks go to Wilson Head Coach Angelos Hernandez, the players & families from both teams
Last nights game featured the visiting Woodrow Tigers, last seasons DCIAA Champions vs 2017 IAC runner up Georgetown Prep Little Hoyas. Wilson entered the game with a 10-7 record which included 6 or more games against top caliber non local teams teams from CA, CO, NY, SC,GA & Chicago. Georgetown Prep had a marquee win over Westtown HS & St. Vincent Pallotti. The Little Hoyas only 2 losses were by 3 to WCAC Bishop O’Connell & to very good Gaston HS from NC who have 3 plus D1 players. Coming into the season we knew Georgetown Prep would be a top 10 team in the DC DMV after an outstanding team performance in the DeMatha BSN Summer where Prep was runner up to WCAC St. Johns Cadets. Jared Bynum was named 1st Team All Star, Mezie Offurum 2nd team, Ike Neweke 3rd team, Dejean Desire honorable mention with Mike Mulquin & Kamdyn Kurfman playing excellent basketball. Wilson finished @ 29-4 last season winning the DCIAA & taking # 8 nationally ranked Gonzaga to the brink in the Washington DC State Semifinals @ Georgetown University. This season the Tigers return 5 of their top 6 scores & added several highly ranked players. Most experts including myself rated Wilson in the mix for potential #1 rankings in the DC DMV. However, the Tigers have had highs & lows this season lacking consistency. In last nights game both Georgetown Prep & Wilson did not get into their desired flow of the game, but the game was still a great one to watch. I still predict the DCIAA will come down to Wilson & Theodore Roosevelt with both teams clashing in a 1-8-18 showdown at the Milkhouse. Prep will begin a brutal 4 game stretch playing IAC rivals St. Albans on 1-5-18, Bullis on 1-9-18 in a huge game & @ Epsicopal in another BIG IAC Clash. This Saturday The Little Hoyas travel to a very good Maret team in the IAC / MAC Challenge. Last nights game went back & forth with Wilson leading 36-34 at the half, but Prep took control in 3rd & led 56-51 after 3. Wilson tied the score with a sperb basket at the rim by Jay Heath. However, with .04 seconds remaining, Wilson was called for a foul on Jared Bynum while he was attempting a desperation 3. The call was hotly contested & you can see the replay below. Jared converted 2 of 3 foul shots for Preps 70-68 win.
In last nights Wilson vs Georgetown Prep game video, highlights are provide at he bottom of the article by our friend Marc Stern @ Capitol; Hoops & some highlights provided by our Adam Ayalew.

St. Joseph is a getting a steal & great young man who is a winner in Jared.
Offensive Player of the Game : Jared Bynum (Georgetown)
Scoring 30 points from all 3 levels at well over 50%, making great dishes & clutch plays all night long seals the deal for Jared as Offensive Payer of the Game & his great overall performance.
Defensive Player of the Game : Dejean Desire (Georgetown Prep)
Dejean Desire, 6’5″ W, 2019. Dejean has played stellar defense all season long & if we formed an MD/ DC All Defensive Team Dejean would be on it. He has great length & plays with a very high motor & tough edge always sacrificing for Prep. Dejean can rebound, closeout & play help side defense at a very high level. Best Rebounder : Ike Nweke (Georgetown)
Ike Nweke , 6’7.5″. F, 2018. Committed to Columbia. Ike is one of the best rebounders & forward defenders in the DC DMV. Last night unofficially he had 10 plus boards. Ike has a powerful physique & he uses his strength & great motor very well in the paint on both sides of the ball. He can score in the mid range & at the rim with strong dunks or post moves. Ike will be a fantastic player at Columbia & an impact freshmen.
Best off the Bench : Will Mulquin (Georgetown)
Will is beyond under the radar & Coach Eskow & myself believe Mike is a low D1 mid major. As Preps 6th man, Mike provides great energy & toughness on both sides of the ball. Last night Mike scored 9 big points, one on a fantastic follow up dunk & a 3 pointer. He has excellent shot mechanics & can score from all 3 levels & defend. Additionally, Mike is a superb intangibles player with a very high IQ & court vision. I will be writing a Recruiting Report for Mike this weekend.
Best Underclassman : Jay Heath & Dimingus Stevens (Wilson)
Jay Heath, 6’3″, CG, 2020. Jay ( left) is very athletic, strong & can score from all 3 levels & defend. Last night Jay scored 18 points with 2 treys, but his scoring drive to the rim over heavy traffic tied the game with 4 seconds remaining was clutch. He can pay on or off the ball & Jay is ranked @ #10 in our 2019 DC/MD rankings & still has great upside.Jay is already a D1 recruit who could become a high major if he reaches his full potential which I think he will. He leads Wilson in scoring @ 15 ppg. We will be writing a Recruiting Report for Jay within the next 2 weeks.
Dimingus Stevens, 6’5″, WG, 2020. Last evening Dimingus (right) scored 15 points which included 3 treys & 4-4 from the foul line. He is one of the best players in DC/MD who can score in bunches & light up the scoreboard with NBA 3 point range. He is very long with potential to become a superb defender. Dimingus is D1 talent & averages 13.5 ppg for Wilson. If he reaches his potential Dimingus could become a D1 high major.
Best Intangibles : Mezie Offurum (Georgetown Prep)
Mezie Offurm, 6’6.5″, W, 2018. Committed to GWU. Mezie could score 20 ppg, but his role @ Prep is utilizing his great overall game with his elite athleticism & IQ. Mezie ranks #3 in assists, #2 in rebounds, & averages 10 ppg for Prep. Last night Mezie played with great energy & hustle. He will be an impact player at GWU
Best Under the Radar : Josiah Marable & Ayinde Hakim (Wilson)
Josiah Marable, 6’8″. PF/C, 2018. Josiah (right) has made great strides since last season. He is a wide body & low post player who scores very well around the rim & has a nice touch from 17 feet in. Last night he scored 18 points leading the Tigers in scoring in addition to getting numerous rebounds. Josiah is playing his best basketball of the season in his last 3 games. He has great upside & already a nice college prospect. If Josiah sheds some weight his game will be taken to another level.
Ayinde Hakim, 5’10’, PG/CG, 2018. Ayinde (left) is averaging 14 ppg this season & leads Wilson in assists. He is one of the most explosive CGs in MD/DC & a superb athlete with excellent strength. Ayinde plays with a very high IQ, high motor & is an excellent floor general. While he can score at all 3 levels, his MO is attacking the rim whee Ayinde can score in heavy traffic & thru contact. Ayinde is an excellent player in transition & has recorded some of the best dunks of this season Last night Ayinde scored 11 points & dished out many assists. He is a D1 talent with offer from D1 Quinnipiac.
Best Shooter: Kamdyn Curfman
Kamdyn Curfman, 6’1″, CG/PG, 2019. Last evening Kamdyn played a fantastic all around game. He screed 13 points with 3 treys on his picture perfect jumper with high elevation. He is one of the most improved players in the DC DC DMV already holding a D1 offer from American University. This season Kamdyn is averaging 10 ppg & is second Preps 2nd leader in assists. He has superb IQ & a very, very underrated defender. Many do not realize Kamdyn has developed excellent PG skills which he will most likely play next season. His offer from AU is at the PG position.
Play of the Game : Jared Bynum, Mike Mulquin (Georgetown ) & Jay Heath (Wilson)
Jared Bynum hit a superb buzzer beater at the end of the 1st quarter where he ran down the clock & hit a mid range bank shot from 8 feet. With 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation in a tie game , Jared got fouled from 3 & hit 2 foul shots to seal Wilson’s 70-68 win. Will Mulquin scored on a fantastic follow up dunk in the 1st quarter & Jay Heath scored at he rim under heavy duress to tie the game @ 68 with 4.7 seconds to go.
Special Mention: Ricky Lindo (Wilson)
Ricky Lindo, 6’8″, Wing, 2018. Ricky is a fantastic player & college prospect. Last might he blocked 5 shots & already holds 18 D1 offers which include 5 from the Ivy League in Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Penn & Yale plus local GWU. Already a superb player, Ricky still has a huge upside.
