Recent Standouts, Miami
Victor Hart, North Miami Senior High School
There has been high expectations, hype, and hearsay regarding the dropping of Hart’s mixtape. While such an irrelevant factor shouldn’t hold much weight in the grand scheme of things, Hart has the type of jaw-dropping athleticism to make it all worth the wait.
The 6-foot-7, Class of 2018 forward is one of the city’s best in the open court. Built on high-flying, dazzling athleticism, Hart can do things only a rarified brand of athlete is capable of pulling off at this level. Hart is lengthy, plays baseline to baseline, and has utilized a feathery mid-range jumper more often this season. The oft-attacking guard is all around smooth.
Luis Haramboure, Miami Brito
The 5-foot-10 guard has been one of Miami’s best scorers, averaging 21.3 points per game. Adept at getting his shot off on the bounce and on the fly, Haramboure has a grittiness and Uber-competitive nature to his game.
A high-scoring captain, Haramboure has the leadership qualities and sound decision making necessary for a player of his caliber on Miami’s obscure private school scene. Part of this decision making entails knowing when he has to go out and get a bucket or reel off a scoring spree that will ignite a run.
Jordan Shorter, Westwood Christian
The Class of 2021 guard certainly has an advanced skill-set and the competitive nature that allows him to play beyond his years. A 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard out of Hialeah, Shorter’s shot making ability and quick-strike mid-range shooting acumen has many pegging him as “up next” at Westwood Christian. Shorter has grown as an attack the rim threat and is still developing as a facilitator, though he primarily plays off the ball.
With 6-foot-11 Purdue-bound Center thriving and 6-foot-9 stretch four Sebastian Guitian proving himself as one of the area’s more undervalued prospects, Shorter certainly has a memorable senior class to learn from.
Lee Flenor, South Miami
The unsung Flenor has been a sleeper in the first half of the 2017-18 campaign. Showing an adeptness around the rim and putting together multiple double doubles thus far, Flenor found his way to the all tournament team of the Junior Orange Bowl Classic.
The 6-foot-7, Class of 2019 forward scored 16 points and tore down 12 rebounds in South Miami’s loss to Bullis (Md.). Flenor has been making a name for himself this season and coaches are beginning to take notice in the long, defensively advanced forward.
