Colonia got off to a slow start on Saturday morning with its star guard struggling to get going from the field, but Rodriguez put on a show in the ensuing game and a half to send the Patriots home with a 2-0 record. Known initially as a sharpshooter, Rodriguez eventually got going from the perimeter while showing off polished mechanics across different situations, deep range, and unwavering confidence. Where he impressed even more and showed the most growth was in his ability to initiate offense, bend defenses off the dribble, and finish explosively above the rim after turning the corner. Rodriguez will have a lot on his plate again this year and looks like he’s already benefitted from the room he’s had to stretch the limits of his game, blossoming into a pretty clearcut D1 recruit in the process.

Efficiency has always been a constant across Rodriguez’s shooting percentages and in this one his range was what was the most impressive— highlighted by a mixture of deep range pull ups off the bounce from well beyond the three point arc coupled with conversion on in rhythm catch and shoot looks from very similar distance. However what continues to be even more encouraging is the continued progression in his game as a creator— showing flashes of creating separation, getting downhill, and generating clean looks for himself off the bounce, an encouraging progression for a player who has traditionally been identified primarily by his shooting.

Looking more and more comfortable and under control on the ball creating for himself against pressure, Rodriguez also showed some intriguing flashes of his ability to create his own shot and get to certain spots off the dribble.

An extremely lethal shooter from beyond the arc with legitimate deep range accuracy and exceptional shooting mechanics,  Jayce Rodriguez Jayce Rodriguez 6'3" | SG/CG Colonia | 2028 State NJ  has stood out in the ways he’s hunted his shot with confidence and aggression from the perimeter with his 16U PSA group. Featuring a smooth and quick release paired with strong elevation on his jumper, Rodriguez’s displayed impressive versatility as an outside shooter—connecting from behind the three point line off the catch, creating separation off the bounce, and with range well beyond the three point line. When the offense has called for it, Rodriguez has also showed flashes of creativity with the ball in his hands, using crafty moves off the bounce to create scoring opportunities for himself.

Not too long after the high school season concluded, Rodriguez received an offer from NJIT and could very well start to see a number of other programs start to show interest heading into the duration of the spring.

Already having a reputation as one of the state’s most dangerous perimeter shooters, all Rodriguez did was reaffirm that assertion while also showing added layers to his game— featuring an extremely fluid shooting stroke with well refined mechanics and super soft touch, Rodriguez demonstrated his versatility as a dynamic perimeter threat with confidence and efficiency, consistently burying open catch and shoot looks, capitalizing on movement opportunities coming off different types of screens, and even off the bounce when he creates separation and gets his shot off. A part of his game that became more glaring throughout the course of this season was his ability to create— showing flashes of his ability to create his own shot off the bounce, particularly with his ability to get to his spots in the mid range area and knock down difficult contested pull ups.

Possessing an extremely fluid shooting stroke with more than compact mechanics, he showcased his versatility as a dynamic and dangerous perimeter shot maker— consistently knocking down open catch and shoot opportunities, converting on shots on the move, coming off various screen actions, and even off the bounce, creating space to knock down shots off the dribble or getting to spots for smooth soft touch mid range pull ups.

Rodriguez displayed his ability to be a versatile outside shooter who at a high rate, converts on open catch and shoot looks, movement opportunities coming off different types of screens, and even off the bounce when he creates separation and gets his shot off. Capable of creating for himself off the bounce at times, Rodriguez also flashed his ability to get to his spots in the mid range area and hit tough, contested pull ups.

Stepping into what is expected to be a larger workload on the ball, Jayce Rodriguez Jayce Rodriguez 6'3" | SG/CG Colonia | 2028 State NJ looked relatively comfortable bringing the ball up and initiating offense. An overall smooth and dangerous shot maker, Rodriguez showed deep range three point shooting ability with his smooth and effortless shooting release paired with the confidence to consistently be a threat as soon he crossed half court.
