Today is Back To The Future Day! This day celebrates the classic movie where Doc, Marty and Jennifer experiment with time travel in the DeLorean. This feels like the perfect day to look at some players, that remind us of old school basketball, but also have modern day skills.

Thompson fits the Back To The Future theme perfectly. It's similar to watching Larry Johnson dominate the glass and finish high percentage power looks at the rim. While Thompson reminds us of days past, he's also the modern day player that can play and defend all over the floor.

Firman has the look of an old school lead guard. He can play as a pass first point that sets up teammates and gets the ball to it's spots. But he also has the modern day flare and shooting ability. If you saw Firman at The Expo, you saw him creating off the bounce and filling it up from deep.

Charter definitely has that combination of past and present player. He looks like the high school version of Magic sometimes with his ability to see the floor and pass over the top of the defenders. That being said, he has that modern day point guard build, where he can muscle up and play physically on both ends.

I saw Smith at the David Barns Showcase, and he was nothing short of a tribute to old school basketball. He played unselfishly and showed a willingness to do the things that don't show up on a stat sheet. Smith has the modern day versatility where he can be on the ball just as easily as step to a wing. And he does both effectively.

Watching Tate defend is like a vision into the past. Joe Dumars and the Bad Boy Pistons would be proud. in an 80's style, he lets his defense dictate his game. Tate is also a new school guard that can play at a fast pace on both ends of the floor.
