Smith is surrounded by talent and size, so don’t let his talented game sneak by. Stats are irrelevant when you watch him play. Smith can get buckets, and will if you need him to. But his game is so much more. If you really watched Smith at the David Barns Showcase this fall, then you know what I’m talking about. He’s a winner that made winning plays. It’s that simple.

Smith will be another critical player on what I think could be a dangerous Pine River team. He’s an unselfish player that makes winning plays. Smith can play on or off the ball and can defend both guard positions.

I saw Smith at the David Barns Showcase, and he was nothing short of a tribute to old school basketball. He played unselfishly and showed a willingness to do the things that don’t show up on a stat sheet. Smith has the modern day versatility where he can be on the ball just as easily as step to a wing. And he does both effectively.

Reliable and dependable with the ball are definitely accurate descriptions of his performance on Saturday. He showed good hands on a catch and finish under the rim. Smith used angles to play tough D on the baseline.

Smith was terrific at the David Barns Showcase and more than solid when I saw him this summer. He probably has a case to rise even more in the rankings. Regardless, a college coach would love to have Smith on their team. He plays the game the right way, letting his defense and ball decisions dictate his game.

I’ve seen Smith play before, but apparently I didn’t do a good enough job scouting him. I saw a whole lot to love about his game on Saturday. He played bigger than his height on defense, using strength to stand his ground and using his verticality to be a very good defender under or near the rim. Smith had more than a couple put back buckets that were earned with his work to gain position under the rim. He did more than score. Smith did the little things that turn into hustle points. Hustle points are really simply winning plays, and that’s what he provided.

Smith made sure that people took note of his game at the Storm Classic. He played well with the ball in his hands over the weekend. Smith made smart decisions and read the game and the action well. He took advantage of scoring opportunities and made the right passes. Smith’s weekend was probably highlighted by a 15 point, 6 rebound and 2 assist performance in a big REAL win.
