Expert Analysis
Logan Greenwell | Prep Hoops Scout
A nice left handed guard that may not be under the radar for much longer. Has made big plays over the course of the spring AAU season including a game winning bucket over Indiana Elite 2028 3SSB at Prep Hoops The Stage. Has a bit of an unorthodox game to him. Crafty lefty that can play on or off the ball. Good decision maker. Puts a lot of pressure on the rim offensively while being a capable three-point shooter.

Grayson Alvey brought shooting to the floor in a big way. He showed confidence knocking down shots off the catch and didn’t hesitate to pull up off the dribble. His ability to space the floor and stretch defenses made him a key offensive piece. When he gets into rhythm, he can change the flow of a game quickly.

-11 points, 1/2 FT’s
-Southpaw and I like the looks of his game
-Caught at the high post, reverse pivot, attacked, drew help, dished a dime
-Sees the floor well, knows when to attack/shoot/pass
-Impressive jab-step
-Makes the extra pass, knows when to move the ball
-TOOK A CHARGE! It is rare to see that in club basketball
-Hit a mid-paint pull-up, shooters touch roll
-Slashes effectively left & right
-Drove & finished at the iron, also produced in transition

Young lefty guard with an unorthodox game. Not the quickest or most athletic player, but he’s shifty and is able to get to his spot. High IQ that doesn’t get sped up. Pushes the tempo really well. Plays under control and doesn’t force the issue. Capable three-point shooter, but prefers getting to his spot in the midrange and rising up.

Alvey attended our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase a year ago and now we got to his growth and development at the Sophomore ID Camp on Sunday. The 6’0″ left-handed guard from Center Grove High School has a strong, athletic build on the perimeter. He is at his best playing away from the ball as a spot-up shooter. Alvey moves well off of screening action, has good footwork, and is always ready to catch-and-shoot. Whether it was in 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 play, Alvey consistently found ways to be involved in what Team 3 was doing offensively. It was good to see the improvements he has made in the last year.

The Sophomore ID Camp is great for those young prospects that we haven’t seen much or any of since they attended last year’s Freshman Showcase. That is the case for Alvey who is developing into a nice player through the system at Center Grove High School. We are happy to have the 6’1″ guard back for our event in early September.

A smooth, left-handed point guard from Center Grove High School, Alvey did some really good things off of the dribble on Sunday. He had a pair of really impressive finishes against size in 5-on-5 play displaying some quickness off of the bounce and creativity at the end of his drives. The Trojans are going through a bit of a reloading process after graduating a lot of seniors. Alvey could be a part of that next wave of young talent to come through the system.
