Freshman Showcase: PG/Combo New Names Emerge

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>What point guards in the 2028 class went from unknown to on our radar after a strong showing at the Prep Hoops Illinois Freshman Showcase?&nbsp; Here are a few of them!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2396333' first='Sean' last='Souter'] (Walter Payton)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Souter is a lead guard that plays with a ferocity that was evident in his play.&nbsp; He has that “it” factor that you just can't teach.&nbsp; Good leader that can handle it, gets to the foul line pushing to the hoop, and is a solid passer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Marlon Williams (Bolingbrook)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Williams caught our attention in the early 3 on 3 action.&nbsp; He is a 5'8” lead guard from the guard factory that is Bolingbrook.&nbsp; Plus jump shooter that hit them from both three and two.&nbsp; One to watch as this program always has solid guards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>DeAndre Redmond (Lockport)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Redmond is a smaller guard at 5'5” that has a good skill level.&nbsp; Slippery with his handles and has the ability to finish through taller defenders in the paint.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2422331' first='Frankie' last='Duarte'] (Marmion Academy)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5'9” guard from Marmion is a lefty point that is a crisp ball handler being able to get to his spots to create to get his shot off.&nbsp; Solid passer as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2531995' first='Ezenwa' last='Nwagwu'] (St. Rita)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Liked what we saw out of this 5'9” lead guard from St. Rita.&nbsp; He is a shifty ball handler that can win off the bounce and get to the rim.&nbsp; Converted a sweet reverse layup and overall plays with a very high-motor!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2438565' first='Luke' last='Lettvin'] (Niles Notre Dame)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5'11” combo guard is one to watch for Notre Dame!&nbsp; Lefty with a sweet looking jump shot that he buried from all over the floor.&nbsp; Pesky defender as well that has active hands and good instincts on that end.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2369854' first='Landon' last='Reiner'] (Loyola)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Reiner caught our attention with the way he distributed the ball.&nbsp; Super small 5'6” guard that had a couple absolute bullet passes where he threaded the needle for dimes.&nbsp; Slick ball handler with some creativity around the hoop as a finisher.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2531987' first='Deon' last='Grant'] (Romeoville)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grant is a name that caught the attention of several on our staff at the camp.&nbsp; The 5'6” Romeoville guard is a thin and wiry prospect with some projectability where he should grow a few more inches before his high school days are over.&nbsp; Liked how he could get to the rim off the bounce and score in the 15 foot range with his pull up game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2389398' first='Orlando' last='Edwards'] (Peoria)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Edwards is a 5'10” point guard from Peoria High.&nbsp; Slick ball handler that has a burst getting to the rim.&nbsp; Wins on straight line takes to the cup and using his acceleration to get downhill past opponents.&nbsp; Showed flashes as a shooter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2532036' first='TJ' last='Togarepi'] (Quincy Notre Dame)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This is another projectable guard from central Illinois to keep tabs on.&nbsp; At 5'10” he has a long and lanky frame with upside.&nbsp; Played his best in transition both as a scorer and distributor at the camp.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2394285' first='Armani' last='Salazar'] (Oswego)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5'7” combo guard was slicing up defenders in one of the games we caught.&nbsp; He has a slick handle being able to get to the cup finishing through taller defenders.&nbsp; Also pushes it well in transition.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
