Dayton Team Camp: 2025 Standouts

I attended the Dayton Team Camp on Saturday and caught some top players from the Dayton area and around the rest of the state during my trip. In this article we'll break down five 2025 prospects who stood out from the Dayton team camp.    One of the top players in Ohio's 2025 class, McClure has seen his recruitment spike with DePaul and conference rival of Dayton's, Duquense offering the wing guard in the past 2 weeks. McClure is one of the top 3 and D prospects in Ohio with range that stretches beyond the college 3-point line and excellent length and foot speed to stay with guards and wings on the perimeter. Where McClure really shined on Saturday was with his passing ability, beating the double team every time it came. With the height to see over the defense, McClure was unphased by the traps and hit his teammates on time. Fellow wing guard [player_tooltip player_id='1952007' first='Amari' last='Hodges'] had a big day shooting the ball from the outside and a majority of his looks were assisted by McClure. With McClure running the show, Westerville South will have a punchers chance against anybody in the central region.     I was impressed with Chaminade Julienne despite losing a couple of their top scorers to graduation a year ago. Cartwright is now the senior leader on the team and his leadership starts on the defensive end of the court. Getting after ball handlers sometimes even behind half-court, Cartwright wants to defend the other teams top scoring option. Combine that with some tough takes to the bucket including some left-handed finishes and I left impressed with Cartwright's performance. 2026 prospects [player_tooltip player_id='2458960' first='Caden' last='Hatcher'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2458959' first='Chase' last='Jones'] are other players to watch from Dayton CJ, both impressed me on Saturday as well.     Maybe the most productive big in the greater Dayton area, Hoerner was going to work early and often for Miamisburg on Saturday. With a clear size advantage in the paint, Hoerner was demanding the ball and scoring at will with his soft touch on mid-range shots and huge size advantage. In the 12-15 foot range, Hoerner is tough to stop unless you have a defender with a body capable of matching his. Miamisburg's guards also deserve a lot of credit for getting the ball to Hoerner in spots that he's comfortable in, they clearly practice post entry passes and a majority of their offense is ran so Hoerner can either score or assist once a double-team comes.     My first time watching Rubin play, I caught one of the top scorers and passers from the Southwestern Buckeye League, finishing third in assists and sixth in points per game last season. Undersized, Rubin does a lot of the things that also don't show up in the box score. He took multiple charges, talked on defense and pushed the ball up the court. Old school coaches will love watching this throwback point guard who has the talent to be a solid small college player, his older brother Darren is one of the NCAC's best guards at Denison University.     A rapidly improving prospect, Showes didn't get a ton of playing time as a Junior, scoring 2.1 PPG and 2.4 RPG but I liked what I saw physically from Showes. Fast forward a few months ahead and Showes is making clear strides with his confidence with the ball in his hands and overall defensive ability. Still a late blooming big who needs patience, Showes has the physical tools to really blossom and become an impactful college player down the line. I'd like to see Showes target either JUCO, post grad or redshirt opportunities to continue to develop because his trajectory is pointing upward and will only continue to improve over time.
