-Liked the inside-out scoring ability from Hoerner from the AIA Prep forward throughout the week. Hoerner was effective as a middle PnR partner that timed his release on slips to the rim well to come up with some tough catches in tight windows to score around the basket. His real value comes on the perimeter as a forward that can knock down pick n pop jumpers or simply hit shots off the catch as a good decision-maker on the perimeter. Hoerner also brings value as a decision-maker in DHOs on the perimeter that can dribble to space, pass up handoffs that are disrupted, and either look opposite to take advantage of the defensive rotations or make a play for himself as a capable jump shooter.

Another big from OHSAA’s 2025 class, Hoerner had a big game for AIA Prep in their massive victory over Mt Zion Prep. Hoerner has done impressive work to continue to slim down his body and he’s become more of a perimeter oriented forward instead of a back to the basket bruiser. Impressed with his development as an athlete and he continues to produce for AIA Prep. Expecting Hoerner to be a priority for regional Division II programs, it wouldn’t shock me if he ended up at the Division I level this year or a few years down the line as well.

An efficient weekend for Andrew this weekend showed a solid all-around game for Athletes in Action, as he was active and engaged throughout, impacted the game in several ways, and was incredibly productive for his team. With his size, he was able to be a strong option around the basket, finishing with touch around the basket, attacking the glass to create extra opportunities, and simply being engaged playing with a strong motor on either side. And showing to be an option out on the perimeter knocking the 17-foot jumper and moving well in space and being a big piece in the paint but also shows a good skillset in other areas of the court.

One of the more improved post grad players from Ohio, Hoerner has done an excellent job of improving his body over the past year by slimming down and able to move his feet quicker and play for longer stretches. This has also allowed him to show off more of his perimeter based offensive game where he took a handful of 3-pointers with confidence on Saturday. After missing his first couple 3-pointers, Hoerner got hot and helped get his team back in the game with his scoring ability. Tough to find bigs as skilled as Hoerner is hard and I expect his recruitment to pick up this winter, he was already a priority for regional Division II programs before he announced a post-grad year at AIA Prep.

I think Hoerner has gone through one of the more impressive body transformations I can remember out of Ohio over the past year. Going from being a back to the basket big posting up and looking to play physical to a natural power forward who can play on the perimeter, attack a closeout and move his feet defensively. The work isn’t done for Hoerner to continue to get quicker but a year ago I would’ve called Hoerner a true 5 and now he looks like a 4/5 combo.

Hoerner has been one of the most dominant high school players from the Dayton area over the past two seasons. As a Junior, Hoerner led the GWOC in scoring and rebounding. To start his senior season, Hoerner is averaging 14.3 RPG!!! While he is struggling a bit from the field, shooting just 40%, I expect Hoerner to find his confidence and boost that percentage as the year progresses. One of the most skilled bigs in Ohio, Hoerner is a guy you can give the ball to on the block, in the high post or on the baseline and let him go to work. Few players across Ohio have as much offensive volume as Hoerner between his field goal attempts, turnovers and assists, Miamisburg looks for him to create almost everything for them. It’ll be interesting to see Hoerner at the college level where he’ll be surrounded by more talented offensive players to bear more of an offensive load.

One of the most dominant players in the Dayton area, Hoerner led the GWOC in scoring as a Junior. An incredibly skilled big who can do a lot with the ball in his hands, Hoerner can post up, knock down the baseline jumper and make the defense pay for doubling. The key for Hoerner will be proving he can defend on the perimeter at a college level. His offensive numbers speak for themselves and were a big reason why he was a late riser in our rankings.

The GWOC leader in scoring and rebounding as a Junior, Hoerner is a tough cover in the paint. An old school back to the basket game where Hoerner wants to use his body to be physical with the defender before showing off his soft touch on post-moves and mid-range jumpers. Hoerner also flashed the 3-point shot down at the 3SSB finals for the Midwest Pumas, a new feature I wasn’t familiar with in his game. Expect Hoerner to contend for the conference lead in scoring and rebounding once again as the Miamisburg offense runs through him.

Midwest Pumas qualified thanks to a strong Adidas Gold record. While their stellar point guard play is usually what gets publicized about their group, I thought Hoerner was excellent on Wednesday. One of the more skilled bigs in Ohio’s 2025 class, Hoerner was able to work with his back to the basket and score in the paint. Also showing me some new skills as he made a couple 3-pointers and attempted a few more. I had previously seen Hoerner stretch the court from the 15-18 foot range with confidence, but the amount of volume he shot from beyond the arc was a new note for me. Expect Hoerner to get a lot of attention from regional scholarship programs.

Maybe the most productive big in the greater Dayton area, Hoerner was going to work early and often for Miamisburg on Saturday. With a clear size advantage in the paint, Hoerner was demanding the ball and scoring at will with his soft touch on mid-range shots and huge size advantage. In the 12-15 foot range, Hoerner is tough to stop unless you have a defender with a body capable of matching his. Miamisburg’s guards also deserve a lot of credit for getting the ball to Hoerner in spots that he’s comfortable in, they clearly practice post entry passes and a majority of their offense is ran so Hoerner can either score or assist once a double-team comes.
