Recruiting Report: Tino Petrovic (2018)
Tino Petrovic spent his first season with Countryside this past year after playing at Oldsmar Christian.
The 2018 forward averaged 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for the Cougars. Countryside went 19-8 this past season with a balanced attack. Petrovic played a crucial role as a reliable passer and spot up shooter. He called his junior year a really enjoyable season and a fun one to play with all the kids he grew up with.
“We had some new coaches come on board which really helped a lot,” Petrovic told Prep Hoops Florida. “As a team, we each grew individually and created some great chemistry which we took to the region quarterfinals. I definitely learned to control my emotions, never get too high or too low. With that, it helped with my self-confidence.”
Petrovic plans to lead by example in his senior year and work hard every day.
“On the court, one thing I will need to do better is rebounding, especially since our 6’10” big from last year Tyler [Witz] has graduated,” he said. “I need to do a good job knocking down open 3’s on offense and locking down the bigs on other teams on defense. I am really excited about this year. We have a lot of seniors and a chance to have a special season.”
At 6’3″, 195 lbs., Petrovic has been able to draw interest from Florida Southern, The Citadel and Eckerd so far. No offers have come yet.
“I think it’s going great so far but there’s always more room to get better,” he said. “I just recently joined The Basketball Warehouse this summer.”
He started playing basketball at 10 years old. Petrovic points to his shooting ability and vision as his biggest strengths. He’s aiming to improve his quickness and speed this season.
Countryside was as sound as they come a year ago and Petrovic played his part well. He will have to be even better this season for the Cougars to replicate last year’s success. Look for Petrovic to score at a much higher clip as a senior. This kid is a hard worker.
