College Commitment – Dylan Westermeyer (2024 Oregon City)
One of the guys we saw make a jump with his game this summer was Dylan Westermeyer Dylan Westermeyer 6'6" | SF Oregon City | 2024 State OR . Playing with the Oregon Prospects on the AAU circuit and at various camps, the lanky 6-foot-6 wing from Oregon City went from being known just as a shooter to someone who could also create off the dribble and finish at the rim. College coaches certainly paid attention and some roster spot offers came through – and more certainly could have come during his senior season. But earlier this week Westermeyer decided to go ahead and make a commitment to Whitworth after previously making a visit to campus.
“I went on the visit and I got to know the coaches and players and really liked them all,” Westermeyer said. “I also watched them practice and there was a level of intensity that I really liked. I also feel like I fit their play style well.”
Other Northwest Conference programs such as Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound had also offered roster spots and some Division II schools such as Western Oregon were ready to watch him more closely this season after he performed well in elite camps. But in the end Westermeyer saw no reason to wait and went ahead and made the call.
“I had no problem committing because I really felt like it is the perfect fit for me,” Westermeyer continued. “I like the area and the city – there’s a good amount of stuff to do. They play very high level basketball too. I didn’t want to lose the opportunity.”
As a junior in 2022-23, Westermeyer averaged a team-high 13.1 points, knocking down over two threes a game at a 34 percent clip. He’s looking forward to the upcoming season where he’ll help the Pioneers win games but also work on getting ready for the next level.
“I want to continue to work on my shooting because their offense values shooting and I feel like that’s a way I can contribute,” Westermeyer said. “Our team is looking very solid. Our practices have been pretty high energy. Really fun group of guys to be around.”
Westermeyer currently ranks as the #26 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings. Our congratulations go out to him and his family on his decision.
