Prospect Spotlight: Jake Brazinski (2020)
Jake Brazinski emerged as a freshman for Newsome this past season.
The 6’2″, 140-pounder transformed into a reliable chess piece for the Wolves as they finished 19-6 and made a Class 9A region quarterfinal appearance before losing to Oak Ridge.
Brazinski says he learned how to become a true leader last season.
“All four seniors were great leaders by having a strong work ethic, always being encouraging and always teaching the other players,” he said. “My defensive side of the game definitely grew the most this past season. I would often have to guard someone quicker than me in practice and they always pushed me so I could get better. All the practice would be translated into the game when I often found myself guarding the opposing point guard.
This upcoming season, my role is going to increase from being a role player like last year to one of the main ball handlers and scorers, and even being one of the team leaders even though I’m only going to be a sophomore.”
The 2020 prospect spent this summer trying to get stronger overall in his body and the game of basketball. He played with E1T1 United, a program he’s been with since 8th grade. His coach is Kevin Knox Sr., a coach for him dating back to 2nd grade.
Brazinski started playing basketball at the age of 6. He calls his outside shooting his top strength.
He’s been aiming to improve his shooting off the dribble and his attack and finish at the rim.
No offers or interest have come yet for the rising sophomore, but one thing is for sure, Brazinski can flat out shoot the ball. I saw that time and time again last season and once again this summer with E1T1. Filling out his body is important if he wants to be an all around prospect. For now, Brazinski is in for a nice sophomore campaign with his confidence rising.
