Expert Analysis
Brandon Ramsey | Prep Hoops Scout
Pippins continues to dominate around the basket showcasing some special athleticism, physicality, and strength. He can play through a lot of contact and simply whips opponents on the offensive glass consistently. The 6’5″ forward from Cathedral High School was excellent for UNRNKD Hoops 17u in EYCL action in Kansas City. His best performance came on Monday when he finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds to cap off a 3-1 weekend for UNRNKD. Small college programs should be all over him heading into the summer months.

of Cathedral HS. Pippins was strong in the post up for UNRNKED 17U and just overall was very active around there on both ends of the floor. He is a real solid rim-running big that can be pretty skilled at times for his size. He has put together a nice strong of performances over the course of the last few months.

Pippins is a player I got to see several times throughout the high school season and loved the potential that he showed. This weekend he was a breakout performer showing his ability to use his length and athleticism to be a threat on both ends of the floor. Big time rebounder and shot blocker, he also showed his mobility by switching on the perimeter and containing smaller matchups. Still a bit raw offensively but showed improvement with his footwork and soft touch around the basket. Had several nice post moves into jump hooks over his left shoulder. Also showed his ability as a lob threat. Good hands that can go up and get the ball at its highest points. Plays with a lot of power underneath and should continue to be a tough matchup down low.

The physical junior forward out of Cathedral has gotten better and better every game I’ve seen him play. He’s an athletic rim running big that plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor and impacts the game without needing to score. He’s a versatile defender that is able to contain smaller players on the perimeter while being a formidable rim protector and rebounder. His physicality and athleticism will be a key part of the Cathedral Fighting Irish advancing in the tournament.

Physical specimen that does most of his damage on the low block. High motor athletic forward that makes plays on both ends of the floor with his length, size, and athleticism. Raw offensively, most of his baskets come of dump offs from teammates or the offensive glass, but did show a soft touch from the free throw line. Legit lob threat that sets good screens and rolls hard to the rim.

It is hard to match the physical and athletic tools that this Cathedral junior forward possesses. Pippins is very strong while maintaining some explosive leaping ability. He had it all on full display against South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday night as Pippins absolutely dominated the offensive glass. Pippins finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds in the 78-71 win with seven of those nine rebounds coming on the offensive end.

Pippins checks all of the boxes when it comes to physical and athletic tools. He is capable of playing above the rim, rebounds at a high-level for his position, and projects as a versatile defender. The 6’4″ hybrid wing/forward had a very good weekend for Indy Heat Red 16u including leading the way with 17 points in a game on Friday evening. His two-way versatility and athleticism should allow him to carve out a role as a junior at Cathedral High School this coming season.

Pippins was in the starting lineup for Cathedral and absolutely looked the part while going up against Pike’s talented front court. The athletic, physically gifted, 6’5″ forward quickly finished a two-hand dunk on the role, dominated the offensive glass, and held his on the defensive end. You simply cannot teach how quickly he gets off of the floor and strength that he possesses. An under-the-radar Class of 2027 prospect to follow for the Fighting Irish.
