Marcus Purcell talks summer ball, season ahead and more
2019 guard Marcus Purcell is beyond athletic.
At Crestview, he helped his group advance to the Class 7A region semifinals before losing to Choctaw.
The 6’2″, 183-pounder says he learned how to be a leader and scorer from his “big brother” Rusty Moorer who graduated this past year.
“Next season I have to be the catalyst that leads Crestview to Lakeland,” Purcell told Prep Hoops Florida. “I will be the focal point of the offense but I have a lot of great athletes around me.”
He spent his third straight summer with 1Family.
“I stayed in Orlando with Coach Darryl Hardin and worked out daily with 1Family teammates Nassir Little and Rondo Segu,” Purcell said.
He started playing basketball at the age 4.
Purcell called his biggest strengths his ability to stay calm in all situations, make his teammates better and also knock down from anywhere on the court if left open. He wants to improve his ball defense and creating shots for himself.
On top of his basketball life, Purcell is an athlete for the Crestview football team.
“Football has helped me be stronger than just about any guard I have faced and helped with my change of direction and ability to finish through contact,” he said.
Currently, he holds one offer FIU. He also has interest from Morehead State, Stetson, Troy and South Alabama.
Starting for 1Family all summer long certainly gives Purcell a boost. He will be depended on largely at Crestview this season as a junior. Look for him to succeed.
