Prospect Spotlight: Gabe Pomales (2018)
2018 guard Gabe Pomales enjoyed a rock solid season at Faith Christian as a junior.
The 6’1″, 155-pounder helped the Lions go 21-9 which included a Class 3A region final appearance. Although Faith Christian lost to eventual champion Orlando Christian Prep, Pomales was proud of what his group accomplished.
He’s decided to play out his final high school season at Lake Howell, where he expects to play a larger role on the floor and as a leader.
“This past season for me had its ups and downs, but I got a lot out of it,” Pomales told Prep Hoops Florida. “I mostly learned how to be more of a leader on and off the court. My defense and IQ has grown the most since last season.”
This summer, Pomales ran with TNT Elite. It was his first year with the team. Prior to that, he had been with the O-Town Wolves since the 8th grade where his group won two AAU state titles.
He is focusing on becoming a more consistent shooter and scorer this summer.
Starting his basketball life at age 7, Pomales called his biggest strengths, his shooting, playmaking, defense and high IQ.
He has no offers yet, but he’s drawn interest from Piedmont International and Catawba.
The Division II/Division III could be a spot for Pomales. The interest from Piedmont could signal a chance for him to land in the NCCAA. For now, Pomales is focused on making a difference at his new school. He calls Lake Howell a better opportunity to showcase his game, so we will see what he can do with it.
