Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Toms is an explosive guard who can affect the game in virtually every category with his all-around play. A legit deep threat with a pure stroke, he balances his scoring inside and out, as well as demonstrating some excellent vision off his penetration. His athleticism plays on the defensive end too, and he’s been a real X-factor for Mode Prep this year.

Toms is an athletic guard from Nevada who has been their driving force offensively. He boasts a pretty well-rounded game and is the catalyst for Mode Prep. He can control a game with his ability to score the rock, showcasing some plus athleticism to make plays above the rim, and pairing his excellent explosiveness and slashing with a pure outside stroke. Also a plus defender, Toms has had a great start to their season and currently holds an offer from D2 Livingstone College.

Zubayr Toms is going from Palo Verde to MODE Prep (which is up in Washington). The dynamic shooting guard played quite well this summer. Hitting a couple of clutch shots at the PRO 16 tournament. He also showcased his athleticism regularly by throwing down dunks and by making plays on defense. I’m sure he’ll continue to make a name for himself on the prep scene.

has been a productive player these past few months. He utilizes his IQ to get to his spots on offense, and he likes to get out in transition. If his teammates hit him with a throw ahead pass, he typically finishes the play with a big dunk. He has also been more consistent on defense recently. I’ve noticed him using his athleticism more to block shots and come up with steals.

has been rocking the rim this AAU season. He gets out in transition and defenders have been making the business decision to not jump with him. He also gets open off ball and connects on triples. On the other end of the court, Toms can gather steals when he uses his anticipation skills.

played fairly well on Friday. I saw him throw down a few dunks, including a windmill. He also knocked down mid-range shots and covered ground on defense with his lateral quickness.

The junior guard scored a decent amount of his points by getting to the rack. His best play of the night was likely when he drove baseline for 2 and lost his defender. In addition to his drives, Toms chipped in a pair of 3-pointers.

You could tell that Toms wanted to advance to the next round of the playoffs. He was playing hard and utilized his bounce to grab rebounds. Toms also made some contributions on offense. He knocked down a 3 and got downhill a couple of times. In order for the Panthers to take down Legacy, Toms will need to continue to play well.

made some notable contributions for the Panthers on Wednesday night. I saw him splash home a 3-pointer and he had some nice off ball cuts on offense. Which resulted into some easy points for Palo Verde. Toms also worked hard on defense, and chipped in a steal.

jumps way up in the ranks to #34 after being ranked around 60. The biggest reason I moved him up is his athleticism and ability to score. Toms also recently put up a 36 point game and seems on his way to having more big time performances. Keep his 6’2 guard on your radar.
