Recruiting Report: Scotty Pippen Jr. (2019)
Scotty Pippen Jr. has basketball in his veins. This past season at Pine Crest, he proved that notion.
The 6’0″, 160-pound guard averaged a team-best 11.8 points per game as a sophomore. The Panthers went 17-8 and nearly upset Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian in a double overtime thriller in the Class 5A-District 14 semifinal. Calvary Christian went onto to win the state title over Tampa Catholic a few weeks later.
“This past season I learned a lot about being a team leader and how to get my teammates more involved,” Pippen Jr. told Prep Hoops Florida. “The part of my game that grew the most was probably my jump shot and ability to get to the basket.”
Pippen Jr. says his father Scottie Pippen, a 17-year NBA veteran and Pro Basketball Hall of Famer (2010) is someone who helps him a lot.
“He helps me with my game and with what I need help with in life,” Pippen Jr. said.
After averaging 8.6 points per game as a freshman with 10 double digit performances, he upped the ante this past season. Playing basketball since he could remember, Pippen Jr. had 16 double digit games led by a career-best 22 point output against Chaminade-Madonna.
This summer, he made his debut with Nike South Beach on the EYBL Circuit. He’s focused on working out and bettering his all-around game.
Pippen Jr. pointed to his jump shot, ability to attack and push in transition as his biggest strengths. He’s looking to improve on everything because he says you can always get better.
No offers have come yet for Pippen Jr., but he’s drawn interest from FAU. He quickly entrenched himself as a scoring threat two years ago. Fast forward to this point and Pippen Jr. is coming to his own as a two-way player. Look for him to have a really strong junior campaign.
