Kevin Daniels | Prep Hoops Scout
Ace knocked down a catch and shot three from the left corner with his feet set and showed a strong left‑hand drive, coming back right into a floater. He intercepted a pass and went coast to coast for a layup, then hit a high floater over two defenders. His backcourt steal led to a dunk, and he added a key help‑side block on Robinson. In overtime, he was fouled with three seconds left in a tie game and calmly sank both free throws to put his team up by two. He made numerous winning plays throughout the game and overtime.

Eagle’s leader throughout the year, Cummings never took things over but was steady and efficient in his contributions throughout the game. In a clean 11-point effort, he showed his smooth skillset and IQ offensively, constantly in the right spots along the perimeter to catch and shoot or attack a closeout. Cummings would only knock down one 3, but routinely leveraged his shooting gravity to knife into the lane for soft-touch floaters. His ability to play unselfishly and efficiently while remaining a threat and staying engaged in the game should pay dividends as he garners scholarship-level eyes in the next year.

The most consistent scorer in a balanced, guard-heavy Eagle BX attack, Cummings shows clear upside for the next level with his blend of size and smooth multi-level shotmaking. He works fluidly both on and off-ball while navigating to his spots for a clean and consistent jumper. Cummings also shows a solid sense for positioning on either end to be in the right spots to play off his teammates. We’ll look to see more from him in terms of ball skills this grassroots season, but scholarship-level programs should be adding him to their boards already.

Due to a senior laden backcourt that stars for Eagle Academy, Cummings’ minutes have been few and far between during the stretch run. A microwave scorer who now stands at 6-foot-1, Cummings had a strong showing earlier in the season against Lawrence Woodmere Academy. He will likely be able to show more of his game playing his age group in AAU and then will slide into a much bigger role next season.
