Prospect Spotlight: Cayden Baker (2020)
2020 forward Cayden Baker is someone who hustles on each and every possession.
The rising Southwest Florida Christian sophomore averaged 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds this past season as the Kings went 28-3 and advanced to the Class 3A state tournament.
Baker recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in a 67-49 state semifinal loss to eventual champion Orlando Christian Prep.
At 6’6″, 200 lbs., he’s able to use his size to win battles in the paint on both sides of the ball. He also lines up for the school’s football team where he posted eight sacks this season. That certainly helps with his toughness when you watch his game.
Baker called the Kings’ state basketball run, an awesome experience.
“It meant a lot to me,” he told Prep Hoops Florida. “Everyone involved in the basketball program at SFCA was ecstatic. Being a freshman and starting was an awesome learning experience playing with three guards who can all stretch the defense and score really opened things for me.”
He’ll be running with E1T1, a program he joined last July. Baker will play both power forward and center for the 15U group.
“I want to show that I can stretch the defense with my mid-range game while also maintaining my style of play which is no one will out work me,” he said.
Starting his basketball life at age 5, Baker says that he didn’t take a full focus on the sport until 6th grade.
He pointed to his strengths as being a good rebounder and good low-post and mid-range shooter.
Baker plays with his high school teammate Jadrian Tracey on E1T1 and the two have been playing basketball together for a long time. With no offers or interest just yet, that should change as Baker shows off his skillset on the circuit with E1T1. He has all the tools to be a solid power forward at the next level and right now he’s taking the steps to better his all-around game.
