LEXINGTON, Ky. – In the first round of the 100th annual Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen Tournament at Rupp Arena, Scott defeated Harlan County, 77-65, to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Here’s a look at the five key categories from Wednesday’s contest:
- Most Valuable Player: Jake Ohmer, Scott – Jake Ohmer had himself a game for Scott, as he poured in 41 points on 13-of-25 shooting, including five made three-pointers, to lead it to another postseason victory. Ohmer, who also grabbed 17 (!) rebounds, took charge early and led the Eagles all throughout the game.
- Best Offensive Performance: Jake Ohmer, Scott – Even though he was the MVP of the game, Ohmer’s offensive performance stood above the rest. The senior guard’s 41 points were the second-most ever in a Sweet Sixteen game, as the record is currently 43 points. Ohmer was virtually unstoppable knocking down big-time shots and recorded baskets from various spots on the floor.
- Best Defensive Performance: Cameron Carmical, Harlan County – Carmical swatted two shots and altered many other Scott attempts. The flashy guard played tenacious defense all throughout the contest while also leading the Black Bears in scoring with 25 points.
- Best Guy Off The Bench: Gabe Price, Harlan County – Price came off the bench and contributed in a big way for the Black Bears, as he finished with 12 points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action. Price gave it his all and helped Harlan hang with Scott for quite a while.
- Best Coaching Decision/Strategy: Fromeyer’s playcalling, Scott – Scott High School head coach Steve Fromeyer made the proper play calls all throughout the contest and used his jam-packed basketball mind to guide his Black Bears to another postseason win.
