Continue ReadingI round out my coverage from the Under Armour Classic by looking at the top Power Forwards from the event. While some of these players are unsigned 2023s, I also evaluate some 2024 and 2025 prospects worth watching and following. See who impressed me below.
Cole Rhett Cole Rhett 6'7" | C Bishop Watterson | 2023 State OH (2023) Nova Village-Taylor (Bishop Watterson)
Rhett reminded me of fellow Nova Village competitor Chase Walker Chase Walker 6'8" | C St. Charles | 2023 State OH with his frame. Not as big as Walker, but Rhett has a strong O-Lineman like feel he brings to the table. Plays super well with his back to the basket and showed solid footwork moving under the basket and with his spin move. Rhett can be a target for D2/NAIA programs looking for a pure PF/Center.
Devin Dreier Devin Dreier 6'6" | C Dayton Christian | 2022 State OH (2023) Mid Ohio Pumas -Price (Flyght Prep)
Dreier brings inside-out potential for the Pumas as he has great length and a long frame at 6-foot-7. Recently graduating from Dayton Christian, Dreier committed to Flyght Prep for a post-grad year and will likely attract D3 schools with his ability to be a perimeter threat with his size. Dreier will need to add some muscle to his frame in order to attract even more attention from colleges.
Pharez Nicholas (2025) Nova Village McClure (Bishop Hartley)
Nicholas has an extremely solid frame for a sophomore and combines this with athleticism to be quite an interesting prospect to watch. Bigger build for a PF and potential to make a play on either ends of the floor with that athleticism previously mentioned. Pinned a block off the backboard and seemingly has springs in his shoes. Nicholas could be a serious prospect to watch as he continues to develop.
Braylin Wells Braylin Wells 6'7" | C Pickerington Central | 2024 State OH (2024) Nova Village-Turner (Buchtel)
Wells comes from Akron and the highly competitive Buchtel Griffins. With Nova, he brings size combined with ball-handling on the perimeter. While Wells’ teammate Juwan Turner Juwan Turner 5'10" | PG Pickerington Central | 2024 State OH gets the majority of the attention on the floor, Wells is a great secondary option and brings some slashing ability to the table for Nova. Wells doesn’t score a ton of points, but he’s more than capable of making his minutes count on the floor.
Nehemiah McMorris (2025) Nova Village UA Rise (Gahanna Lincoln)
McMorris is big for a 15U player and was big for Nova Village as they played up in the 16U field last weekend. McMorris stands 6-foot-7 and has bounce to go with his size. Great in pick-and-roll situations and sealed off opposing bigs off the roll. I like his upside and potential to help fill the voids lost by Lincoln’s graduating seniors and size.
