College Commitment: Raysean Seamster (2022 Roosevelt)
The original plan was to reclassify to the Class of 2023 and head to prep school up north. But plans can change and that’s exactly what happened with Raysean Seamster Raysean Seamster 6'6" | SF Roosevelt | 2022 State OR . A special opportunity came up for the long and athletic 6-foot-7 swingman and with it too good to pass up, the Roosevelt senior announced that he had verbally committed to attend and play basketball at Eastern Arizona College.
“After talking with my family and coaches we thought it will be better for me to get college experience and also more time to show that I can play at a high level still,” Seamster said. “I liked that it’s a new coach (at Eastern Arizona) and that he pushes his players to be the best.”
Seamster had originally planned on going to prep school at BFL Prep in Seattle. But newly named head coach Cameron Turner from Eastern Arizona came into the picture and not only recruited Seamster but his older brother Deray, who graduated from Central Catholic in 2020 and had been home this past year after playing at Chaminade. The opportunity was given for the two brothers to play together and it was one that played into the younger Seamster’s decision.
“It played a big factor because as kids we always wanted to play on the same team in college,” Seamster said.
Also figuring in was the fact that Eastern Arizona has maintained a pipeline to Oregon – specifically the Portland area – and Turner wanted to continue that history. Many a former Oregon prep has gone through Thatcher, Arizona onto higher heights such as Euroleague star and former NBA player Mike James on to 2019 Jefferson grad Jalen Brown who’s currently at Pacific. Seamster could very well be the next Gila Monster on that path.
“You know I had a couple big-time colleges calling me before my injury,” Seamster said. “So I’m just trying to show them that I’m still the player they saw before the injury.”
Seamster currently ranks as the #1 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings. Our congratulations go out to him, his brother, and his family on the decision.
