This week is the final tournament week of the season and we have some great tournaments coming up later in the week, especially in the Oklahoma City area. Before we get to the tournaments, we had some great games across the state on Tuesday night, and a bonus game from Monday night. In our weekly “Tuesday Night Headlines” feature, we take a look at some of the top results from last night, as well as some of the top individual performances from across the state.
COLLINSVILLE 66, TAHLEQUAH 56 (OT)
Collinsville won their fourth game in a row at home on Tuesday night with a 66-56 victory over Tahlequah in a game that went into overtime. The Cardinals had to rally in the second half to come away with the win OT win. It was tied after regulation but the Cardinals absolutely dominated Tahlequah in the overtime period, outscoring them 13-3 in the extra four minutes.
Leading the way for Collinsville was senior guard Jacob Scyrkels, who finished with a game-high 28 points with over 20 points coming after halftime as the Cardinals made their rally. Scyrkels really caught fire in the final quarter that helped push the game into overtime. With the win, Collinsville improved to 12-2 on the season.
The Cardinals continue to build momentum as we get closer to the playoffs. They are currently ranked #4 in Class 5A but Del City and Memorial are certainly the heavy favorites as we start looking ahead to the postseason. But Collinsville is establishing themselves as the second best team on the east side of the state behind Memorial.
EDMOND MEMORIAL 54, NORMAN NORTH 50
For the second time this month, Edmond Memorial knocked off Norman North in a battle of two top ten teams in Class 6A. The Bulldogs got Norman North at home on Tuesday night but would have to have a furious fourth quarter rally to improve to 11-2 on the season while the Timberwolves fall to 9-6. Norman North led by ten points going into the final quarter but it was all Edmond Memorial in that final frame.

They weathered the storm through the first three quarters and would make their run in the final period. Using defensive pressure, the Bulldogs would force turnovers that led to easy buckets and they would climb out of the double digit deficit to knock off the visiting Timberwolves.
Edmond Memorial continues to be one of the top teams in Class 6A as they’ve been a top five team for the entire season. Norman North slipped to #10 in the recent ranking update on Monday. Both teams are certainly state tournament-caliber teams and we could end up seeing this match-up again with much larger stakes on the line in March.
HERITAGE HALL 57, VICTORY CHRISTIAN 54
The rematch between top five teams in Class 4A was much different than the first time around. On Tuesday night, Heritage Hall beat Victory Christian in a close game throughout with a 57-54 win. Last month, Victory absolutely dominated the Chargers with a 67-41 victory. In that December contest, Victory Christian would outscore the Chargers 41-19 in the second and third quarters.
This time around, the game was close throughout as neither team could put the other away. The Chargers would have to hold on to get the 57-54 win over the Conquerors, adding even more intrigue to the Class 4A playoff race when it comes to the state tournament contenders. Victory was #2 and Heritage Hall was #3 in the recent ranking update on Monday. Heritage Hall will return to the floor in the Deer Creek tournament while the Conquerors take the floor this week in the Port City tournament in Catoosa.
OWASSO 64, JENKS 57
After losing two straight games last week to Bartlesville and Booker T Washington, along with losing four out of their last five, Owasso needed to turn things around in a big way. You couldn’t ask for a bigger win than their 64-57 triumph over top-ranked Jenks on Tuesday night. The Rams also avenged their third place loss to the Trojans in the Tournament Of Champions in December.
Senior big man Caden Fry Caden Fry 6'7" | C Owasso | 2022 State OK continues to have an outstanding senior season. He has been the catalyst of this Owasso team all year and is certainly on the board for All State and even Player Of The Year considerations at this point. He’s been one of the more consistent players night in and night out and had another strong performance against the Trojans on Tuesday night. He finished the game with 26 points.
The Rams are hopeful that this will lead to some momentum going down the stretch. Before they return to Frontier Conference action at the end of the month, they’ll head up to Kansas this week to participate in the Pittsburg Tournament. For Jenks, the Trojans are participating in one of the more competitive tournaments this week as they co-host the Jenks-Union Invitational.
UNION 67, BOOKER T WASHINGTON 65
For years, the achiles heal for Union basketball has been free throw shooting. Even ten years ago when they were rattling off championships, they still struggled at the charity stripe. That was not the case on Tuesday night as they handed Booker T Washington their first loss of the season with a 67-65 victory over the Hornets.
Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, along with a game-high 23 points from sophomore Chris Mason Chris Mason 6'6" | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK , helped the Redhawks to the valuable win over the visiting Hornets. Despite a 6-5 record, Union is one of the more talented teams in Class 6A and it showed once again on Tuesday night. They would have to rally after the Hornets jumped out to a 26-17 lead in the first quarter. But that has been the story of this Union team so far this season. Sometimes they start slow but when they flip that switch, it’s fun to watch.
They flipped it once again on Tuesday and were able to outscore the Hornets 34-24 in the second half to get out of Tuesday with a win. This will be a big week for the Redhawks as they knocked off the Hornets on Tuesday and will co-host the Jenks-Union Invitational from Thursday-Saturday. Including Union, 5 of the top 13 teams in Class 6A are in the tourney field. And we could see a Booker T Washington-Union semifinal rematch on Friday if both teams win on Thursday.
*BONUS* CASHION 65, BISHOP McGUINNESS 62 (OT)
In a bonus game that actually took place on Monday, Cashion knocked off Bishop McGuinness 65-62 in overtime on Monday evening. The Wildcats, who are near the top of the 2A rankings knocked off a top ten team in Class 5A and did so in overtime.
