We will take a close look at the High School version and focus on Northwest Ohio and some transfers that will make an immediate impact in their upcoming season.
Jabari Conway Jabari Conway 6'8" | C Bowling Green | 2023 State OH 6’8 (F) from St. John’s Jesuit to Bowling Green HS
Jabari has been on the scene since his Jr. High Days, he enrolled at SJJ with high hopes of making an instant impact, derailed by a bacterial infection early in his sophomore year, and losing 30 pounds it halted his progress. Conway worked his way back his and began to blossom and showed glimpses of what he could be.
Conway had a some highlight games this AAU season, showing flashes of stardom for Hopson Elite. He has a strong will to win and the work ethic to back it up, as the decision to transfer came to light to his home school where he starred at BG Jr. High it was apparent the Bowling Green would be better with Conway in the mix. He has the potential to be a double-double player for them every game. I look for Jabari to be a All-NLL performer as he will be a bright spot for his new team.
Nate Houston Nate Houston 5'11" | PG Emmanuel Christian | 2022 OH 6’1 (G) from Toledo Rogers to Emmanuel Christian
Houston is no stranger to playing on talented teams, and when he chose to transfer the impact was two-fold, first, losing a player of his caliber will have an impact on the Rams program, but one teams loss is another teams gain. Enter Emmanuel Christian, they are the leading favorites to win the TAAC title and will make a deep run in the state tournament. Houston who is a superb athlete will add to an already loaded roster, will be a factor in their success.
Houston is a high flyer that will keep defenders on their toes, as a senior on this talented but young team, look for him to be the steady influence in helping this group become special, they have a ton of potential and Nate could be the linchpin to their season.
Romel Hightower Romel Hightower 6'5" | SF Toledo Start | 2023 State OH 6’5 (F) from Cardinal Stritch to Toledo Scott
Hightower will step onto the court in the famous Ben Williams Fieldhouse and will be a crowd favorite, Toledo Scott will be my pick to win the City League and Hightower will be the main reason, the lefty will be a matchup nightmare for every opponent they will face, he will be a game changer on the defensive end as well as a potential 20 point a night scorer.
Hightower will command attention when he is on the floor, look for him to make his teammates better each game, I can see Romel in double figure scoring, double figure rebounds, and throw in 5 assist and 3 blocks per contest. He is that type of player, potentially the POY in the City League.
Steven McCoy Steven McCoy 5'8" | PG Toledo St. Francis | 2022 OH 5’10 (G) from Toledo St. Francis to Whitmer
McCoy may be limited by the OHSAA transfer rule and may only be able to play half the season, the two sport star was limited by OHSAA in football and derailed a potential All-TRAC, All-District performance on the field. On the hardwood, McCoy is a super quick guard who can defend multiple positions and will put a already talented roster in a position to vye for the TRAC Title.
Whatever the outcome on McCoy he has already put teams on notice on the field and he will definitely do the same on the court. I’m certain he will play at the next level, some program will be getting a Bonafide Stud. I see McCoy really being there to help his teammates during the season, if he is unable to play look for his leadership ability on the sideline, helping in any capacity he can.
Nick Borojevich 6’2 (SG) from Rossford to Swanton
Borojevich will be a All-Conference performer in the NWOAL in his senior season at Swanton, coming off the last three seasons at Rossford, he was on scouting reports as a sniper. He can flat out shoot the basketball. He will be one of the focal points for the Swanton Bulldogs, he moves well without the basketball and has a quick release, he shoots around 40% from the 3pt. line and will command attention as teams will figure out how stop him.
Transfers happen all the time, the teams that inherited these players for the upcoming season will be better off with the impact players mentioned. You have All Conference players that will elevate their new teams. Coach Armstead (Emmanuel Christian) spoke very highly of Nate, saying “Nate came in and his work ethic has made an immediate impact on our team, he is a natural leader”. Coach Craig (Toledo Scott) was gushing over his transfer in Romel, saying “Romel is a dynamic player on the offensive end, he will also be an impact defensively as a shot blocker”.
