Continue ReadingWe continue our look at the top performers from Sunday’s PrepHoops Top 250 Expo and there were several guys in attendance that were true threats from the perimeter. Here’s a look at some of the top shooters we saw.
Josh Jackson Josh Jackson 6'4" | SG Centerpoint | 2021 State AL (2022 Sunset) – Jackson has one of those types of shots that literally every time it goes up, you are thinking that it’s going on. Quick release, tight rotation, smooth form are all things the 6-foot-4 wing has going for him. Jackson ended up being one of the top scorers at the event with many of them coming from beyond the arc.
Axton Wongsomadi Axton Wongsomadi 6'1" | CG Century | 2023 State OR (2023 Century) – In his very first game, the state’s returning three-pointers per game leader in 6A buried five from long range. The 5-foot-11 guard is the perfect guy to benefit from guys driving and kicking but he also showed the ability to make space for himself with the ball to get off his shot as well.
Kellen Sande Kellen Sande 6'1" | PG Cascade | 2022 State OR (2022 Cascade) – Sande took a break out of his football schedule with his #1 ranked 4A team and we are glad he did. The 6-foot-1 guard has a super quick trigger on his shot and showed the capability of getting hot in a hurry.
Breyan Kelly Breyan Kelly 6'2" | CG Sherwood | 2023 State OR (2023 Sherwood) – Kelly came to play on Sunday and was sharp with his shot, whether it was catching and shooting or creating a bit and hitting pull-up jumpers. The 6-foot-1 guard has nice form on his shot and was able to nail some jumpers while on the move.
Jordan Mesa (2022 Beaverton) – Mesa usually had the ball in his hands on his team, which allowed him to create space for himself for his shot. He was solid knocking down open jumpers from three but also showed smoothness on his pull-up jumper.
Jacob Axmaker Jacob Axmaker 6'0" | CG Stayton | 2022 State OR (2022 Stayton) – Axmaker was more focused on setting up teammates in the game we watched. But we were encouraged to go back and look at the film and we were able to see what we are used to seeing – the senior pulling up from deep off the dribble and canning it. Axmaker recently got a roster spot offer from Pacific Lutheran.
RJ Alexander RJ Alexander 6'1" | CG Gresham | 2024 State OR (2024 Gresham) – The lefty guard really got things going in the action we saw on his team. The 5-foot-11 sophomore also known as “RJ” had a stroke that was smooth and dead-on whether it was coming off a screen and catching the ball or using a few dribbles to knock down a pull-up jumper.
Braydon Ace Long (2024 Willamette) – Long didn’t get a ton of opportunities, but when he did he made the most out of them. The 5-foot-10 guard hit a number of threes, both off kick-out passes or using screens to get free and open.
Corbin Cichy Corbin Cichy 6'3" | SF Lake Oswego | 2025 State OR (2025 Tigard) – Spot up, catch, shoot, make – that’s essentially what Cichy did during the event as practically every time we turned around he was nailing a jumper. The 6-foot-2 guard may not have the prototypical basketball body right now but he can sure flat out shoot the rock.
