Continue ReadingAfter a year off, the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo was back on Sunday and it was back in a big way, as close to 100 participants fit into the gym at Parkrose High School for some spirited competition. There were plenty of college prospects on hand and a number of college coaches were watching both on the sidelines and online looking to bolster their rosters for the next few seasons.
There were some talented out-of-state players on hand – including as far as from the islands of Hawaii – but the majority of the prospects on hand were from the state of Oregon. We tried to watch as much of everyone as possible so we only had a snapshot of all the action. But based on what we watched and polling some of the on-court coaches in attendance, here’s a list of the top Oregon individual performers on the day.
First Team
Kavon Bradford Kavon Bradford 6'2" | CG Benson | 2023 State OR (2023 Benson) – Bradford got off to a quick start in his team’s very first game and was dominant in all phases of the game. The 6-foot-2 combo guard was unstoppable getting to the hoop and finishing in creative ways and he did a great job directing the team and getting them into transition. We weren’t keeping stats but we wouldn’t be surprised if he was close to posting a triple-double.
Bryce Dyer Bryce Dyer 6'5" | PF North Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 North Medford) – Dyer’s scoring numbers weren’t super high but there was no question he got things done in so many ways on the court. The 6-foot-5 forward has always been one of the top rebounders in the state and he was all over the glass on both ends. Offensively he capably bullied his way to the hoop for scores as well as knocked down some open jumpers.
Esyah Pippa-White Esyah Pippa-White 6'2" | PG Gresham | 2023 State OR (2023 Gresham) – Pippa-White only got to play in two games due to a school commitment but as the highest top-ranked player who participated, he more than showed out. The point guard was dominant and in control with the ball with both his own scoring and setting the table for his teammates, and did so with incredible balance. He was a unanimous choice out of everyone as one of the top players at the event.
Malik Ross Malik Ross 6'0" | CG Tualatin | 2022 State OR (2022 Tualatin) – He admittedly got off to a bit of a slow start, but when Ross got going he was flat out unstoppable. The 5-foot-11 combo guard simply got to the hoop whenever he wanted to and capably finished with both hands around the rim, especially in transition. Ross, who took time off from his football schedule to participate, is the perfect blend of strength, speed, and athleticism.
Donatello Tupper Donatello Tupper 6'4" | SF Roosevelt | 2022 State OR (2022 Roosevelt) – Along with Pippa-White, Tupper was a unanimous choice as one of the top performers of the day. The 6-foot-4 wing has always been one of the top finishers in the state and that was clearly on display as he may have thrown down the most dunks out of anyone. But Tupper also showed off great accuracy with his jumpshot, knocking down several open threes, and converted some acrobatic layups.
Second Team
Graham Eikenberry Graham Eikenberry 6'10" | PF St Andrew’s RI | 2023 State OR (2022 Lincoln) – Granted he often had a size advantage over others at 6-foot-9, but Eikenberry never played small and kept the ball high whenever he touched it. He was dominant on the glass and got plenty of buckets in the paint, often battling for second and third opportunities on the offensive glass.
Josh Jackson Josh Jackson 6'4" | SG Centerpoint | 2021 State AL (2022 Sunset) – Jackson was wet from long range the entire day. The 6-foot-4 wing has arguably the smoothest shot in the state and practically every shot he threw up looked like it would be a swish. He was deadly off the catch-and-shoot but also used his dribble to create space for himself to get it off.
Julian Mora Julian Mora 6'0" | PG Summit | 2022 State OR (2022 Summit) – Mora plays at one speed – fast – and he pushed the ball up the court at every opportunity on Sunday. This was extremely effective for the 5-foot-11 guard as he often got easy scores for himself or others in transition. Mora hit some outside jumpers to keep the defenses honest in the half-court as well.
Skyler Schmidt Skyler Schmidt 6'8" | SF Central Catholic | 2023 OR (2023 Scappoose) – Schmidt was a player we really wanted to see and we were not disappointed. The 6-foot-7 forward displayed a nice inside-outside game and really did a great job finishing through contact with a number of and-one plays.
Dylan Westlake Dylan Westlake 6'0" | PG Mountainside | 2022 State OR (2022 Mountainside) – His team was full of offensive weapons and Westlake may have been the biggest. He was near unstoppable getting to the hoop and he consistently finished over bigger players either right near the rim or with a one-handed runner.
Honorable Mention
Dominic Ball Dominic Ball 6'11" | C Cascade | 2022 State OR (2022 Cascade), Ty Best Ty Best 6'6" | PF Cascade | 2023 State OR (2023 Cascade), Dimitri Cohen Dimitri Cohen 5'11" | CG Mountainside | 2022 State OR (2022 Mountainside), Noah Dewey Noah Dewey 6'6" | SF Crescent Valley | 2022 State OR (2022 Crescent Valley), Dylan Douangphrachanh Dylan Douangphrachanh 6'3" | SG Benson | 2024 State OR (2024 Benson), Jordan Johnson Jordan Johnson 6'1" | CG Century | 2024 State OR (2023 Century), Jordan Mesa (2022 Beaverton), Noah Ogoli Noah Ogoli 6'2" | CG Tualatin | 2022 State OR (2022 Tualatin), Brady Rice Brady Rice 6'2" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR (2023 Beaverton), Amare Rolle Amare Rolle 6'4" | SF Westview | 2023 State OR (2022 Westview), Kellen Sande Kellen Sande 6'1" | PG Cascade | 2022 State OR (2022 Cascade), Sawyer Wolf Sawyer Wolf 6'3" | SG Tigard | 2023 State OR (2023 Tigard), Axton Wongsomadi Axton Wongsomadi 6'1" | CG Century | 2023 State OR (2023 Century)
