McCormick had been a steady part of Next Level’s success this season. Often doing the dirty work as a good finisher around the rim and providing valuable depth needed to get through 4-5 games in a weekend. He was in that role again this weekend, with one good sign of improvement. He shot it very well from three, especially in the title game. The addition of a confident three point shot would be a very good development for a physical guard who often does his best work around the rim.

While a lot of the Irish were content with jumpers, McCormick went to work off the bounce and around the rim. His favorite move off the dribble on the game was a spin move. Which paired well with his strong frame. The junior is a tenacious finisher, who looks like he can be relied on to go get a tough bucket for McGuinness.

In a Saturday night, McCormick was an example of perseverance and playing to strengths. In the first half there was early missteps, as it felt like he was pressing. A couple unforced turnovers on drives where he could’ve used better footwork. During the rally late in the game, McCormick had more success at the rim. It was a mix of him battling for offensive rebounds and him switching to playing more off two feet. Where he had more control on his drives, and play to his literal strength. His broad shoulders make him a bit of a battering ram when it comes to muscling through defenders for scores.

Rounding out the double figures scorers on the weekend is another McGuinness standout. While he has some perimeter skills, he was also willing to help provide some inside presence. Which makes sense as he has broad shoulders and some physicality to his game. Along with his 10 points a game, he grabbed 7 rebounds.
