Somerset Prep North Lauderdale: (Last season: 5-12)
The Hurricanes are a team to keep an eye on in 3A. 6-foot-3 2022 Deshayne Montgomery is versatile guard/forward in the open floor. Montgomery can attack the basket and finish with a dunk or crafty move around the rim. He also plays well off the ball with great vision off back door cuts and screens. Montgomery averaged 12.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, four assists and 3.4 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor as a junior. 6-foot 2022 Jaiden Miller is an impressive leaper that elevates well in the mid-range. Miller is a fearless player that will attack the basket. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from the floor as a junior. Moreover, he went 21-of-59 (36 percent) from deep. Miller is a captain and team leader. He will do the dirty work on both ends of the floor.
Stranahan: (Last season: 5-5)
The Mighty Dragons will need to replace 2021’s Thaddeus Squire Thaddeus Squire 6'5" | CG Stranahan | 2021 State FL and London Pavilon. The pair combined for nearly 23 points and 13 rebounds per game and were team leaders. 2024 Reece Randolph Reece Randolph 5'9" | PG Chaminade Madonna | 2024 FL is also gone after transferring to Chaminade–Madonna. 2023 Hykeem Williams Hykeem Williams 6'4" | PF Stranahan | 2023 FL is back after averaging 8.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward is a force around the rim and as tough as any player in the area. His combination of size and speed will be tough to defend. On the football field, Williams is one of the best wide receivers in the country with a truck load of D-1 offers. 6-foot-4 2022 Houston Culpepper Houston Culpepper 6'3" | CG Stranahan | 2022 State FL returns after averaging 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Culpepper has been working hard this offseason and appears to be in great shape. I like his size around the basket and ability to finish with either hand. He is a tough kid that will grab crucial rebounds and fight for 50/50 balls. Don’t underestimate him off the dribble coming off the wing. His vocal leadership to this team also cannot be underestimated. 6-foot-1 2022 Tamarrien Thorpe is a backcourt player with 3-point ability. Per MaxPreps, he hit three or more in a pair of games.
Pine Crest: (Last season: 21-1/4A state champions)
What is the state of the Panthers after losing Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson as well as 2021 Eros Carpio Eros Carpio 6'4" | CG Pine Crest | 2021 State FL ? The twins signed with Overtime Elite and head coach Kevin Ollie. Per its roster, 6-foot-3 2022 Isaiah Ramsey Isaiah Ramsey 6'3" | CG Pine Crest | 2022 State FL is the returning scorer (3.4 ppg) from last season. Its a new chapter for the Panthers. Who will write the next one?
South Plantation: (Last season: 9-3)
The Paladins lost two of their three games last season by a combined ten points. 6-foot 2024 Kaiden Francis Kaiden Francis 6'1" | PG South Plantation | 2024 State FL is a player to be aware of. Francis is a guard with impressive ball skill in the halfcourt. He is a 3-level scorer that plays with confidence. You must assume his early playing experience will prove dividends this season and in the future. 5-foot-10 2022 James Martinez is a guard I saw play this summer. I was impressed with his playmaking ability in person.
