And while more than 90+ teams came through the doors of LakePoint Sports Complex in Cartersville, Georgia, only 1 team from each division was able to take home the title of Prep Hoops Passion Region Passion Region Champions!
As the best basketball state in the nation (no bias here, I promise), you know Florida was very well represented! So, here are some of the early standouts from the weekend, Part 3:
Jaden Baker, 6’, Spartans Elite, 2024
Baker has been absolutely one of my favorite 2024s I had the pleasure of watching during The Circuit. Baker doesn’t look like your average hooper with his modest build, but what he lacks in physical attributes he more than compensates for in IQ. Baker simply makes the right play almost every time down the floor. He has an incredible ability to find the easiest way to cut up a defense and get to the rim for easy layups. He rarely has to contort his body because he finds easy paths to the basket. His passing is above average and he is an equally reliable shooter. He’s the engine behind a smooth running Spartans Elite squad that can become a serious issue if they stick together for their whole AAU careers.
Carter McDole Carter McDole 6'5" | SF Dr. Phillips | 2024 CA-S , 6’7″, Athletes of Influence, 2024
McDole might have had the biggest stock rise of the entire weekend. The 6’7″ freshman plays at Montverde Academy and showed exactly why he’s worthy of hooping at one of the country’s best basketball academies. He has a great touch around the basket and can finish with his back to the basket. He’s also a great finisher going downhill and has the touch to get to the rack for easy finishes. He’s a reliable free throw shooter who was able to knock down a high percentage from the charity stripe, a valuable tool for a guy who gets fouled a good amount. He can roll easily on defense and block shots with ease. Overall, he just looked more poised than every other 2024 on the floor and will be a D1 kid in a couple years.
Tyson Wilson Tyson Wilson 5'10" | PG Treasure Coast | 2024 State FL , 5’7″, Athletes of Influence, 2024
Wilson was the complete opposite threat of his teammate and fellow champion McDole. Wilson was by far the best perimeter threat in the 2024 division. He hit 7 threes in the final four game against Spartans Elite and added a host of trios in the championship game against Stampede Elite. Despite his size, Wilson can get shots up over bigger defenders with his quick trigger and his ability to find the right spot on the floor for shots. His size may cause some problems for him as he progresses through high school, but his unstoppable shooting trait makes him a threat at any level.
Reggie Reinhardt, 6’, Stampede Elite, 2024
Reggie Reinhardt has become a quite popular face behind the camera of my phone, considering how many times he’s been worthy of a Top Performer title throughout his multiple Prep Hoops Circuit appearances. He’s a regular 20+ point threat out of Wellington High School, and he was back on his scoring streak at the Passion Region Finals, leading his team to a 2024 division Championship Game appearance. Reinhardt is an incredible finisher and a reliable shooter who can attack from all 3 levels. He’s got a strong build and is definitely one of the 2024s who is on the rise in Florida.
