The heady 5-foot-10, 155-pound floor leader spent a good amount of time playing AAU ball to hone his game and he’s seeing it pay off his senior season at La Salle. The Falcons are off to a 3-0 start and Boyd has been a big part of that success.
“We’ve been playing really good basketball and I feel like we can do that all year,” Boyd said. “I feel like my game has been coming along pretty well. My jumper has gotten a lot better than last year, I have better handles now and it’s been coming along really well.
We got a chance to watch Boyd play in a big win for La Salle over Valley Catholic on the road. In the game, Boyd was sharp with his three-point shot but didn’t force the action, running the point relatively turnover free and getting his teammates involved as well as looking for his own offense. He’s currently averaging 20 points per game and is La Salle’s top threat on the offensive end.
From a college recruiting standoutpoint, Boyd remains open. He notes that he’s been talking with Cal State San Bernardino as of late but is also considering the prep school route.
“I want to have the option just in case,” Boyd said. “A lot of dudes are doing that because of COVID.”
So for now, Boyd’s focus is on the rest of the season with his La Salle teammates. He’s setting his sights high. “If we have a post-season I think we can take it all,” Boyd said. “We’re trying to go undefeated, that’s our goal.”
Boyd is a high-academic student who currently ranks as the #10 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
