Covering Indiana High School Basketball has become a nearly 365 day a year job. The season obviously starts up around Thanksgiving and runs until the beginning of spring. Then, the grassroots schedule picks up almost immediately and runs through the end of July. August is a bit of a quieter month, but once school gets back in session there will be fall leagues and preseason workouts all across the state. Getting out and spending time with our state's great coaching staffs and getting a more intimate, behind-the-scenes look at specific programs is one of our favorite parts of the coverage calendar. Our travels across the state started as the calendar turned to September. Here are some notes on a couple schools we hit to finish up a busy week on the road.

Warsaw Tigers

When looking for under-the-radar teams that could make some noise in 2026-2027 this Warsaw team definitely deserves to be mentioned. The Tigers will compete to win Sectional 4 and will be a tough team to handle on a nightly basis. Coach Matt Moore's team might be a year away from really competing at the statewide level, but they will sneak up on some people this season.

6'5" junior wing/forward [player_tooltip player_id='2797649' first='Drew' last='Jones'] is the top returning player for Warsaw. He is a skilled offensive threat with a smooth left-handed stroke on the perimeter, the strength to bully smaller defenders around the basket, and some impressive passing ability. Jones will be a very difficult matchup for opposing defenses. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2622046' first='Sam' last='Lara'] and freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='3654214' first='Liam' last='Kitch'] will be the go-to backcourt pieces. Lara is a veteran starters for the Tigers while Kitch has a ton of talent and will likely prove himself as a Top 10 Class of 2030 prospect in the state this season. He will step in and play a major role right away. Sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='3033335' first='Alex' last='Higdon'] and Nash Wiggins will factor into the backcourt equation as well.

Joining Jones in the front court is 6'6" junior [player_tooltip player_id='2797647' first='Gabe' last='Ioane'] and 6'2" junior [player_tooltip player_id='3139596' first='Landon' last='Kralis']. Ioane has the length and bounciness around the basket to be a two-way threat. Kralis is very strong and skilled inside of 15-feet. There are a lot of pieces on this team that can excel in their role and contribute to winning right now.

Fishers Tigers

The torch has been passed to Coach Miles Wayer to lead the Tigers, but not much will change as he is no stranger to the program and the expectations that come with it at Fishes High School. Look for Fishers to once again be a state title contender and enter the season ranked #1 in the state of Indiana.

As long as the backcourt of [player_tooltip player_id='2267046' first='Jason' last='Gardner Jr.'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2140345' first='Cooper' last='Zachary'] are wearing a Fishers uniform you can pencil them in as the best in the state. The duo has gone an incredible 83-3 in three seasons and already have one state championship to their name. Now, the Auburn commit and Florida Gulf Coast commit will look to add to their trophy case. Those two along with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='2470635' first='Levi' last='Walker'] give the Tigers a solid core of returning talent and veteran leadership. Walker is a sought after Division II prospect with some low-major Division I interest as well.

Aside from the three seniors, Fishers has a very talented sophomore class that will be "next up" along with some other valuable pieces to provide depth. Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='2860080' first='Tristan' last='Breland'] and 6'8" sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='3666055' first='Max' last='Hopkins'] are highly ranked Class of 2029 prospects that got minutes as freshmen. Meanwhile, junior [player_tooltip player_id='2520999' first='Maksim' last='Radovich'], senior [player_tooltip player_id='3142197' first='Micaiah' last='Baker'], and 6'8" senior Sall Camara should get rotation minutes as well. Other names to know in the sophomore class are [player_tooltip player_id='3759166' first='Jordan' last='Bogan'], [player_tooltip player_id='3622389' first='Isaiah' last='Futch'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2958117' first='Reid' last='Stoddard'].
