We recently updated our class of 2028 rankings in the state of Virginia, going to 142 prospects from across the state we believe will be players to keep an eye on moving forward. Obviously the list will change plenty over the next two seasons, but for now here's a look at part one of some of the top juniors in the Richmond area.

#3) [player_tooltip player_id='3443376' first='Chacho' last='Womack'] | 6'5” SG | Petersburg

Womack and his family moved to Petersburg after being perhaps the breakout player in North Carolina last year, leading his West Charlotte team to a state championship as a sophomore, and becoming a nationally known prospect in doing so. The 6'5” wing is wired to score the ball and does it effortlessly from all over the court, he has great footwork to create space off the bounce and knock down tough shots, he works well off the ball and has deep range off the catch, and he's both an explosive and crafty finisher when he gets downhill as well.

#23) [player_tooltip player_id='3275771' first='Jovin' last='Johnson'] | 6'7” PF | Collegiate

Johnson was a breakout player at Glen Allen last season, and after showing a ton of improvement from the beginning of the year and having a great summer, he made the decision to reclassify to the 2028 class to give him more time to develop for college. The 6'7” forward has grown into his body and has seen a big jump in his athleticism and coordination as well, he has shown a lot of improvement in his ability to play on the perimeter, he's a versatile defender who moves his feet well and protects the rim, and he's still got a lot of room for improvement which is very intriguing.

#24) [player_tooltip player_id='3554534' first='Roman' last='Dennis'] | 6'2” SG | Varina

Dennis had a good sophomore season for Varina and followed it up with a big summer with VA Havoc, and he's set up for a big junior season as one of Varina's go-to guys this year. The 6'2” wing is built to play the game with long arms and a strong frame, he can knock it down from deep consistently off the catch, he can gets downhill and finishes well through contact, and he's a good defender both on the ball and in help as well.

#27) [player_tooltip player_id='3554525' first='Danny' last='Mooney'] | 6'2” SG | Collegiate

Photo: instagram @dannymooney21

Mooney was one of the breakout players in Richmond last season, and it's no surprise as his Dad has been the very successful coach of U of R for the past couple decades and his style of play is very indicative of that. The 6'2” wing is a driller from deep with a quick release and deep range, he's a good secondary ball handler with great feel and a high IQ, he is a sneaky athlete in transition and when he gets downhill, and he understands concepts on both ends of the floor well beyond his years.

#37) [player_tooltip player_id='3659457' first='Vernon' last='Hope'] | 6'4” SF | Huguenot

Hope is part of a Huguenot core that surprised a lot of teams last year, and they will be one of the top teams in Richmond this season as well with a lot of talent and another year of experience under their belt. Hope's an intriguing prospect for coaches to watch as he has good positional size and a versatile skillset, he's strong in the paint whether it's on post ups or when he gets downhill, he can make shots from deep and in the midrange at a good clip, and he's a very good rebounder for his position as well.

#39) [player_tooltip player_id='2960264' first='RJ' last='Mickleberry'] | 6'4” SG | John Marshall

Mickleberry was a standout at Glen Allen over the past couple of seasons, and he made the decision to transfer to John Marshall where he'll be in a good spot with his specific skillset that they need plenty of. At 6'4” with long arms he has a great frame and is a good athlete to go along with it, he's a knock down shooter from deep with in the gym range and a quick release, he's a good secondary ball handler who makes good decisions, and he has all the tools to be a lock down defender as well.

Obviously the list will change plenty over the next two seasons, but for now here's a look at part one of some of the top juniors in the Richmond area.
