Prep Hoops Expo: Jack’s 3v3 Standouts

Here are seven standouts from the 3-on-3 portion of Prep Hoops The Expo: Minnesota in Hopkins on Saturday!

It had been awhile since I had last seen Acaurii in action, as he turned in a dominant performance in the 3v3 section of The Expo. He looks to have grown a little since the high school season and looks more explosive as an athlete. He was very tough to contain on drives to the basket, using his size and athleticism to finish through and around contact. Clark is also a capable shooter and will be in for a breakout junior season, transferring to Simley.

Julian is the type of player that can flat out dominate in a 3-on-3 setting, as he can score from all three levels and finds creating separation from defenders very easy. The 5'11” guard is so tough to stay in front of, as he has a deep bag of moves he can go to to work around opposing guards. He was hitting on pull-up looks from three and in the mid-range, also working great as a passer, creating so many open looks for his teammates.

I anticipated Tyrece to be a game wrecker in 3-on-3 and I was correct. He has been so good in isolation situations over the years, and is at his best when going to get a bucket. The change of pace he plays with is so impressive, as he was blowing by defenders with ease, resulting in a lot of easy finishes around the basket. Hagler is also a knockdown shooter and could not be left open from deep.

Tyrese is a player that is able to affect the game in so many ways with his versatility and effort he plays with when he is on the floor. He was a difference maker on the boards, cleaning up teammates' misses for second chance opportunities. He plays very unselfishly, moving the ball and only taking good shots. Hutton is also a major threat from deep, using his quick release to get shots off fast in the catch-and-shoot.

Cullen really impressed me in 3-on-3 play, as he took over in one of the games his team won. He is a very versatile scorer, as he was lighting up from all three levels. He hit on some extremely difficult looks from the perimeter, pulling up off the dribble, sometimes off balance. Odegard played with a lot of effort and intensity, giving maximum effort on the defensive end as well.

Milton was one of the most physical players at camp, as he is very tough to stop when he has a full head of steam coming downhill. He does not try to do too much with the ball in his hands, as he is looking to get inside where he can finish with touch or power. Nuahn can absorb contact for layups in traffic or convert on a floater.

Paxton played very well without the ball in his hands, constantly moving around to open himself up. The junior guard is a great shooter and could not be left with any space on the perimeter, as he is at his best when shooting off the catch. He also attacked close outs very well, being able to get inside where he could finish around the rim at full speed with either hand.
