Ripping ball handlers was another skill Nolan brought defensively. He showed off special timing and anticipation when it came to stealing the ball from opponents. He entirely slowed his momentum on a fast break, went up with one foot, and paused, causing a defender to fly past him and creating a wide-open push shot, which he hit with ease. That takes huge amounts of control and balance. He scored from the perimeter as well, knocking down deep off-the-catch threes and displaying a quick outside shot with delicate touch. He also created steals on defense with his quick hands and defensive instincts.
