Ohio Freshman Showcase: Team 2 Standouts

McClure is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and he's able to stay low to the ground on drives around the defense and split defenders off the dribble. McClure was also arguably the best passer at the freshman showcase, as he threw countless assists to cutters, spot-up shooters and big men. That combination of skills made McClure one of my favorite players to watch on Saturday. Kempton had one of the best sequences all day with a pickpocket steal that led directly to an and-1 finish in transition. In the drill portion of the showcase we worked on driving and kicking by using jump stops and pivots and Kempton applied that skill to the 5 on 5 action at the camp with some nice looks to teammates for open 3-pointers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["3725945"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6a8bb665042a7"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">A long athlete, Felton has an impressive wingspan and looks to have intriguing long term physical upside as he continues to hit the weight room and grow. Felton was active in the paint by rolling to the rim after setting ball screens, cutting to the basket and crashing the offensive glass. A quick twitch athlete, Felton could change directions quickly while attacking and blew by some slower footed defenders. Stepping up to the challenge to defend bigs on the opposing team, Huckaby was not afraid to guard players much taller than him and wall up to force misses and box out to secure rebounds. Huckaby also scored off cuts as he was one of the main guys Cj McClure was finding with his passes. Huckaby already has a stronger frame than a lot of other players at the camp, giving him a bit of a head start when looking at who will be able to handle the physicality of the high school game. Gahanna has tremendously deep 2029 and 2030 classes but Huckaby could compete for varsity minutes as their core gets older and develops.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
