New Jersey Legacy Team Camp: Further Session I Standouts

Returning for another summer, New Jersey Legacy Basketball once again brought together a strong collection of North Jersey prospects for its annual team camp. The multi-day event featured competitive matchups between programs while providing some of the state's talent with an opportunity to showcase their skills. Held at Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ, this year's New Jersey Legacy Team Camp offered an early glimpse at players adjusting to new programs after offseason transfers, as well as those preparing to step into larger roles this upcoming winter, providing valuable insight into which prospects are poised to make an impact during the high school season. With that in mind, here's a further look at several players who stood out during the opening session of New Jersey Legacy's team camp earlier this week.    Stepping into a slightly different role than he was accustomed to last season as a knockdown perimeter shooter, [player_tooltip player_id='2504899' first='Chase' last='Pettiford']'s early action since transferring to Newark Tech has continued to present opportunities to demonstrate what his impact has the possibility to look like beyond his outside shooting. In an expanded offensive role that's given him a chance to handle the basketball more and initiate offense, Pettiford's increased volume saw him aggressively seek out driving angles— attacking closeouts and finishing from different angles in traffic, creating drive and kick threes when driving angles got cut off and even reading the floor in transition to advance the ball up the floor. All while reinforcing his value as a confident perimeter shooter from beyond the three point arc.     A unique and versatile two way piece who plays much larger than his measurables suggest and consistently embraces the gritty side of the game with a tireless work rate, [player_tooltip player_id='2980797' first='Abraham' last='Desrosiers'] excelled in the less glamorous aspects of the game. Hard nosed and bringing a relentless level of effort and energy, Desrosiers' impact was felt in areas far beyond the box score— extremely active hands and a high amount of ball pressure to be disruptive and force steals while also contesting and altering shot attempts. Making the most of his touches on the offensive end, Desrosiers capitalized on a number of looks around the basket, converting on put backs on the offensive glass, finishing at the rim as a cutter in different half court sets, and even attacking driving angles when the opposing defense was forced into rotations.     Operating comfortably within the flow of the offense, [player_tooltip player_id='2789859' first='Dave' last='Kobryn'] balanced patience with aggression as he displayed strong decision making off the bounce and rarely over dribbled or forced difficult looks, keeping it simple and playing fundamentally sound basketball. Kobryn was noticeably poised off the bounce and played with an impressive amount of composure and efficiency— picking his spots and knocking down smooth mid range area pull ups, making strong reads in ball screens and maintaining his court vision in the open floor while demonstrating his threat to hit shots extends out onto the perimeter, proving to be a really good catch and shoot shooter.     What's figured to be an expanded role this winter that features an opportunity to fully emerge as a knockdown perimeter shooter, [player_tooltip player_id='2783963' first='Shane' last='Jacobs'] offered an tremendously encouraging glimpse of his ability to stretch defenses with his dangerously efficient three point shooting ability.
