Kansas’ Top 15 in 2027 — End-of-Summer Rankings, Part III

As I continue my look at some of the top names in Kansas in the class of 2027, I come to the final installment of my rankings as I take a look at the top five players in the state with summer coming to an end. I'll break down each player, what I saw from them this summer, and how things might look for each guy this winter.   5. [player_tooltip player_id='2140483' first='Christian' last='Cast'] | 6'4" Guard | Monarch Academy   Cast leads off the top five as the former Detroit Country Day star headlines my list of top players in Kansas as a strong guard for Monarch Academy. This summer, you saw a guard that was noticeably bigger and longer, while his skillset also continued to reach new heights. His handle is really impressive, as he can start and stop but also looks smooth and flowing with the ball at times, especially when operating in isolation situations where he can really throw off primary defenders.   But I believe his shot-making is most impressive right now. He can pull up off the bounce in tight areas and elevate, while also having a quick release when catching and shooting off the wing. Christian continues to excel in ball screens, often dragging out secondary defenders to open up voids in the defense and exploit those different coverages. His length also appears to be making a difference defensively, as he rotates well and can switch onto different players when needed.   You would think that he and [player_tooltip player_id='2323571' first='Jaxson' last='Davis'] would be a nice one-two punch in the backcourt for Monarch Academy this winter and could be one of the more impressive combinations we see all winter across the country. He currently holds offers from Penn State, Mississippi State, High Point, Loyola, Ball State, Toledo, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, San Diego State, Alabama A&M, Jacksonville, and San Diego.   4. [player_tooltip player_id='2371700' first='Deuce' last='McDuffie'] | 6'6" Wing | Monarch Academy   McDuffie is another key name joining Monarch Academy out of Wisconsin who is quickly ascending and could be a top-100 national recruit soon. There's a lot to like about the true wing who shined this summer, slashing and skying above the rim. Deuce plays with a steady pace and can rock defenders to sleep before accelerating with the ball. He really likes to play off two feet when he gets cut off on a drive, using shot fakes, spins, and an impressive fadeaway touch.   He can also stretch the floor as a long-range shooter and is ultra-aggressive as an offensive rebounder, earning second-chance opportunities often. He should be a perfect complement to Cast and Davis for the Monarchs, and his versatility on the defensive end should give the group a lot of options for how they might want to switch or mix up their coverages.   As expected, Deuce also has his choice at the next level with offers from TCU, UCF, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Toledo, Bradley, Marquette, DePaul, Green Bay, Illinois-Chicago, and Grambling.   3. [player_tooltip player_id='2125674' first='Quinton' last='Kitt'] | 6'6" Forward | Monarch Academy   The Illinois commit is another big name headed to Kansas City this fall and should see continued growth and development at Monarch Academy. He might be the most unique piece for the Monarchs, as he can play both as a true forward or a wing. He's really comfortable around the basket as a finisher, especially when in traffic or playing through contact.   This summer, he looked strong in transition. He can push the pace with the ball in his hands or sky above the rim as a lob threat. Kitt's shooting stroke also looks really smooth coming off his hand, and he's shown a lot of range when stepping out, something that should suit him really well this coming winter.   I can see him playing out of a lot of actions, with the ability to slip to the rim or pop out to space, really stretching the floor and creating advantages to play out of. With his recruitment wrapped up, or so it appears, he should be 100% locked in this fall and just focused on development, which might be the scariest thing about his trajectory.   2. [player_tooltip player_id='2334869' first='Cameron' last='Barnes'] | 6'7" Forward | Monarch Academy   A Kansas City native, Barnes now moves on from Link to Monarch Academy and joins the rest of this impressive top-five list. Coming off what I believe was his best summer in recent years, he has a lot of momentum, and college programs are definitely noticing. I think he's fully embraced his strengths and really leaned into them over the past few months, showing a strong forward who has added size and strength while still being athletic enough to face up and play off the perimeter at times as well.   Cameron is at his best when attacking the rim, whether it's off the bounce or simply carving out space against smaller defenders. He's extremely gritty and rugged and is hard to influence around the basket thanks to his broad shoulders. A talented rebounder, he also pursues the basketball aggressively off the rim and looks to earn extra possessions.   His growth as a perimeter shooter should also be a focal point this winter and could cause a lot of mismatches for him on the offensive end. The pairing of him and [player_tooltip player_id='2323571' first='Jaxson' last='Davis'] at Monarch should be fun to watch, and I would fully expect their chemistry to grow throughout the winter. Barnes' offer list includes Missouri, Arizona State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and TCU.   1. [player_tooltip player_id='2323571' first='Jaxson' last='Davis'] | 6'0" Guard | Monarch Academy   There's no argument on who's number one in Kansas, as [player_tooltip player_id='2323571' first='Jaxson' last='Davis'], a top-40 national recruit, will continue to hold that spot down. Davis is an undersized but aggressive lead guard who showed he's one of the nation's best this summer. Jaxson showed quickness and explosiveness throughout the summer, regularly playing with a solid frame that held up fine against bigger perimeter players. The lefty likes to get downhill in a hurry and is adept at finishing around rotation players or shot blockers at the rim.   He also showed an arsenal of different fades and floaters, which allow him to get his shot off in tight areas when the defense shrinks the floor. He's also more than capable as a perimeter shooter, able to pull up off the bounce or find space off the ball where he can catch and shoot in space.   What really separates him is his ability to play with great instincts and aggression at times defensively. He's a guy that wants to pick up in the full court and can play bigger than his frame, while also flashing as a productive rebounder in different situations. He will be the face of Monarch Academy this winter and should run the show against strong competition.   Davis currently has a long list of offers, including Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio State, Creighton, Marquette, Arizona State, Boston College, Illinois, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Purdue, Northwestern, Butler, DePaul, Xavier, Toledo, Eastern Illinois, and Western Illinois.
