DMV Transfer Buzz: Big Dominoes Starting to Fall

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The high school transfer portal is ALWAYS open. At least that's the way it has seemed over the last year. Below are the latest happenings within the DMV.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>St. Frances with two big additions and a possible third on the way?</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers had a so/so showing to their standards at DMV Live in June, but have since officially added two difference makers to their roster that will further bolster their chances of repeating as BCL champs in 2026-27. 2027 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2316556' first='Camontae' last='Griffin Jr.'] was the first splashy addition as the journeyman finds his way back to Chase Street to finish out his high school career and will supply a true point guard presence for head coach Nick Myles in the backcourt. Putting Griffin next to 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2454534' first='Terence' last='Jones III'] will make up the best guard duo in the BCL and allow Jones to toggle on/off the ball similar to his role last year playing next to [player_tooltip player_id='2878470' first='Carter' last='Fisk'] (Villanova). The Panthers have a stable of talented underclassmen guards, but adding Griffin to the roster in the immediate is noteworthy to say the least.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another addition that went official yesterday was 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='3313763' first='Joshua' last='Hurd'], a 6'5"-6'6" hybrid forward from Long Reach High School. He was considered the most promising prospect, particularly from the long-term perspective, in the Howard County landscape and while his skillset is still being polished, his positional versatility and improved athleticism will allow him to contribute in a massive way. Hurd put up big numbers last season for Long Reach, but steps into the Catholic League looking to take his game and his recruitment to new heights. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The additions don't stop there. I'll wait for the announcement to become final, but St. Frances is very close in landing a top-20 prospect in our 2028 rankings who brings additional size and versatility to shape up a roster that looks to be the most impressive in the BCL.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Clinton Grace quietly making strides</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Eagles are coming off a 2025-26 season where they embarked on one of the most challenging schedules in the DMV. Head coach Devin Paige isn't one to duck competition and certainly isn't one to take his foot off the gas once he establishes momentum. With that, they've added 2027 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2353555' first='Malachi' last='Terrell'] to the fold, who spent time at Gonzaga (DC) to being his high school career before heading out west to Hillcrest (AZ) and now returns back to the DMV. A dynamic lead guard who can play on or off the ball, Terrell is coming off an impressive spring/summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2450576' first='Team' last='Museum'] on the PRO16 Circuit and also showed high-level flashes with Riverdale Baptist in DMV Live.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It looks like they'll add some size to the frontcourt as well with 2027 Tylor Jenkins, a transfer out of Kentucky who made the move up North for various reasons, but a big one being to get exposure against higher competition. He stands around 6'10" with significant length and while it can play a role around the rim, he'll need to adjust to the speed and physicality that comes with playing in the DMV. At the very least, it'll give the Eagles size to match up with some of the national level teams that are expected to be on their schedule.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The St. James Academy pipeline continues</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We've seen head coach Book Richardson embrace the DMV player pool this summer by adding names such as 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2454911' first='Jahmai' last='Drayton'], 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2353558' first='Isaiah' last='Carpenter'], 2027 Kye Gray, 2029 Harlem Nunez and even brought 2027 Christian Proctor back to the area from LuHi. Now in the latest addition, he adds 2029 [player_tooltip player_id='3669293' first='Tylen' last='Kingsby'], who may not be a DMV native, but played for [program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'] 15s this spring and summer. Kingsby still has a ways to go developmentally, but that's expected coming off his freshman season, but when looking at his pure athleticism you'd be hard pressed to find someone more explosive in his class.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As we know, a roster on paper compared to on the floor can be two separate things. That's the puzzle that all these coaches will try and piece together in order to make waves this winter. While we've been used to DMV talent leaving the area for powerhouse prep programs it's good to see the talent staying local and even making their return to finish off their high school careers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>More moves will be made official in the next few weeks and I'll be back to break them all down here on Prep Hoops MD/DC and VA.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
