CoBL Underclassmen Camp: Standout 2029 guards

City of Basketball Love held its annual August underclassmen on Friday afternoon at Abington Friends, bringing in over 100 of the top rising freshmen and sophomores from across the Philly tri-state region. Several prospects made their presence felt but these rising sophomore guards were particularly impressive in our viewing.    It can sometimes be hard to stand out in a camp setting by way of true point guard play but Davis did just that, impressing with his poise and decisionmaking while showing he could score it plenty effectively himself. The Delaware product showed an impressive ability to make quick reads on the fly while delivering passes all over the floor with either hand. He helps compensate for his lack of size and strength with an increasingly prolific 3-point stroke and is a pest on the defensive end to force opposing guards into turnovers. Davis continues to announce himself across the Philly area before making his debut in the PCL this winter.     The highest-ranked prospect in the gym, Copeland made it look easy oftentimes while showcasing his dynamic on-ball arsenal. Already with significant PCL and EYBL experience under his belt, he was impossible to stop for extended stretches as he bobbed and weaved through defenders into diverse finishes in the lane. He did a respectable job of finding teammates for open looks once he got both feet in the paint as well. We'll be continuing to hone in on the progress of his perimeter shot in game settings moving forward, but Copeland's downhill abilities continue to be second to none among 2029 guards in the area.     Greene was a pleasant surprise as he popped on multiple instances during our first viewing of the South Jersey product. He was a dynamic threat in transition, showing off his quickness and functional athleticism with a steady nose for the rim in open space. Greene played with consistent energy and was a presence in the floor game as both a rebounder and distributor. We'll be curious to see how he fares in more structured situations but the foundation is there for Greene to develop into a nice prospect over time.     The youngest 2029 in the camp, Lowry put on a strong display of two-way guard play before heading back to Florida for the school year. He kept defenders off balance with shifty pace and a smooth pitter-patter to his handle and footwork. Lowry was in attack mode but managed to stay under control as well while also flashing his dangerous pullup stroke out to the arc. With youth and bloodlines both strongly in his favor, Lowry looks to be on a nice trajectory when projecting toward the D1 ranks.     Previously one of the younger members of the 2028 class, Johnson is in the final stages of picking a high school destination where he'll repeat his sophomore year and reclass into 2029. After a summer playing up on the 16U EYBL level, Johnson was back amongst his peers on Friday and was difficult to contain with his slithery attack off the bounce. The steadily-growing southpaw was effective using his quickness and length to burst by defenders and finish smoothly at the cup. He'll make a healthy debut in the next round of rankings updates as he begins to establish himself further now as a 2029.     One of the bigger and stronger guards in the camp, Williams was effective using his size and strength to work to his spots and pragmatically hunt his buckets. Among the more prolific shooters in the class, he was consistently able to elevate over smaller guards and convert on pullup jumpers. Williams also showed some headiness in the floor game while working closer to the basket for easier buckets when he had a physical advantage on his defender. Heading to Perkiomen this fall, he continues to establish a resumé as one of the most productive rising sophomores in the region.
