CHSAA X Factors

Yancey would have been on our top shooters list if it wasn't for one of his teammates. He returns to the Cardinals for another season as a major part of their back court and offense. His three level scoring ability, hustle, passion and defense are big components of his game. Hayes has really brought him along during his time on varsity and this season should be his best yet.     Belizaire is just a tough productive guard who can get a bucket late in the shot clock. He was fantastic at Iona Prep CHSAA Team camp over the summer and showed he's definitely one of the main guys for Xaverian. The Senior will need to lead more this season but if he can capture success and consistency it could lead to more Clipper wins.     Hudson was playing a huge role before going to down with a significant knee injury that cost him the season. The Senior has been grinding and rehabbing hard to get back in the court this winter. His coaches have been really impressed with the work he's put in and love his progress. He has a chance to give the Royals a massive boost this season as one of their top defenders and rebounders.     White is a really exciting prospect for the Terriers that saw a of action last year. He's back for year two, he's had a great summer, has gotten stronger and could help put SFP ahead of the rest. His ability to impact winning is his best skill, he's unselfish, plays hard, rebounds and does whatever it takes to get to the win. The coaches at prep love his attitude, development and will trust him to do more for his Sophomore season.     Jackson is a bit of a sleeper and oddly is the Lions xfactor despite leading them in scoring last year. He's a lanky wing who's effective around the basket, in transition and in the mid range. The Lions play with a lot of pace and energy but sometimes their best offense is when they slow things down and get Jackson quality looks. His success will lift the play of others, he has defensive versatility, a good IQ and wants to help Loughlin make some noise in the playoffs.     Johnson continues to fly under the radar for the Ravens. He has shown terrific signs during his early years on varsity but now it's his turn to try and lead St. Ray's. The Senior is crafty, shifty, really quick and is always a tough cover. His decision making and three point shooting will most likely make or break the orange and blue. Can he get this historic program back in the championship discussion?     Iona Prep has lost a few key pieces but return one of their top players in Kmetz. He's a steady starter who will consistently be one of their main scoring options. Kmetz is a talented shot maker, he takes his time, doesn't force bad shots and has a really good basketball IQ. The Gaels are counting on their Senior guard to take a step up in all categories and if he ends up collecting an ALL CHSAA selection IP mostly likely had a good season.     This prospect at Mount is easily one of our favorites in the CHSAA and New York City. He wasn't around during team camp but he's absolutely started turning heads on the AAU circuit. The Division 1 programs are seeing the potential, he's taking big steps offensively and is already considered a very strong interior defender. His production has been good, he's got huge upside, his role should expand this year and don't be surprise to see some offers roll in.       Vazquez is a multi sport athlete that does a little bit of everything for St. Peter's. He's a physical defender, active on the boards, communicates on the back end and always plays hard. His energy, high motor, willingness to get on the floor is contagious. This x factor has a lot of work to get done for St. Peters to have a good season but we know Vazquez will get the Eagles everything he's got.
